Rare Futures Announce West Coast Tour

Rare Futures Live by Nick Karp.jpg

Rare Features, the indie-prog rock band band from New York City, is ending the terrible year that was 2016 on a high note by embarking on a west coast tour with Hearts Like Lions and RUMRS. Founding member and incredible musician, Matt Fazzi has played with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Into Over It, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, and Deer Hunter (among many others), but wanted to start a project all his own, and thus Rare Features was born.

Formerly known as Happy Body Slow Brain, Rare Features is a perfect combination of groove and progressive rock with some incredible 80’s influences thrown in there for even richer melodies, giving clear nods to bands like Tears for Fears and Sade. They released their emotional debut LP This is Your Brain on Love earlier this year in March and have been non-stop busy ever since. Although their tour only has a few dates left, you better believe that despite 2016 coming to a close, this only marks the beginning for Rare Features.

Watch and listen to the awesome music video for their single “The Pressure” below. If you like what you hear keep an eye out for them in 2017 through all of their social media outlets and of course The Hook will keep you up to date on all of your Rare Features and music news.

Ira Hill Joins O'Kingdom On "The Lost Souls Tour"

Akron, Ohio metalcore outfit Ira Hill will be supporting fellow genre contemporaries, Kentucky’s own O’Kingdom, as they embark on a tour of the southern United States.

Check out the dates below:

unnamed (5).jpg

Ira Hill has been around bringing their brand of melodious metal tunes to the masses since 2013. Comprised of Devon Drusky on vocals, Brian Clark on guitar/vocals, Rick Alkire on bass, and Jordan Marich on the drums, the band has had the opportunity to tour with the likes of The Bunny The Bear, The Convalescence, and Open Your Eyes. They’ve also appeared at a variety of festivals including- but not limited to- Dirt Fest, Warped Tour, and SXSW.

Currently, the band is still touring in support of their Just Keep Swimming EP, which came out June 20th, 2015. The EP is available on iTunes for roughly $7, so don’t miss out. O’Kingdoms is anticipating an album release themselves, with the June 22nd unveiling of Anthem Of The Lost just around the corner.

Apparently, these bands willed this occurrence.

As drummer Jordan states: “Touring with O’Kingdom has been on our to-do list ever since playing with them at the iMatter Festival in New York last August. Lots of sweat, paint, and breakdowns in store for anyone coming out to the shows, should be a real treat!”

Be sure to follow both bands online through their website and/or social media! This will be a long and productive summer for the both of them.

As always, stay tuned!

Wrekmeister Harmonies Announce Album & Tour

Wrekmeister Harmonies returns with their latest album Light Falls scheduled to be released on September 16th through Thrill Jockey.

At the core of Wrekmeister are guitarist and vocalist, JR Robinson, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Esther Shaw. The two are joined by Godspeed You! Black Emperor musicians, Thierry Amar on bass and contrabass, Sophie Trudeau on piano, violin and vocals, and Timothy Herzog on drums. Chicago musicians Ryley Walker and Cooper Crain (Cave, Bitchin Bajas) who appear on the album as well.

Light Falls Tracklist:
1.  Light Falls I - The Mantra
2.  Light Falls II - The Light Burns Us All
3.  Light Falls III - Light Sick
4.  The Gathering
5.  Where Have You Been My Lovely Son?
6.  Some Were Save Some Drowned
7.  My Lovely Son Reprise

The title of the album originates from the text of “If This Is A Man” by Primo Levi’s.

The manuscript was written about the year he spent as an inmate at Auschwitz. The Jewish-Italian chemist and anti-fascist resistance fighter suggested in his seminal work that society sees inhumanity through gradual change. People will begin to accept things they normally find reprehensible.

Robinson adds, “I wanted to sonically convey the idea of slow, creeping change. When I came up with the title I was thinking of how when daylight turns to night time it’s a very gradual process. You are lulled into watching this slow, peaceful sunset but then all of a sudden you look up and it’s dark.”

Wrekmeister Harmonies have toured relentlessly with the likes of Bell Witch, and members of Dead to a Dying World throughout North America and Europe following the release of their album Night of Your Ascension last November. The collective will be touring North America and Europe in the new 5-piece format this fall/winter. This summer, Wrekmeister Harmonies is touring North America with Marissa Nadler. Dälek Announces Tour Dates

Just after the recent release of their album Asphalt to Eden, progressive hip-hop trio Dalek announces a set of tour dates.

They will be performing at a few isolated events including the Northside Festival on June 9th at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn and a New York themed affair in Paris on July 9th. Subsequently, they will be taking the stage in Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Chicago.

Skilled jugglers, the men were able to prepare for the tour and remix Publicist UK’s “Telegraphing,” currently available on Noisy.

The website states: "The original version is a slice of upbeat, almost poppy post-punk with dynamic dual vocals that appeared on taken off Publicist UK's most recent album, 2015's Forgive Yourself. When given the Dälek remix treatment, though, it becomes utterly transformed, stretched out into a discordant opium haze, peppered with electronic blips and menacing subsonic frequencies. The pretty parts get dark, and the dark parts get weird."

Throwing another ball in the toss, Dalek linked with Elektron to create the Dalek Soundscapes Sound pack, a collection of songs produced during the making of Asphalt to Eden but not included in the final copy. This package seams the last thread of Dalek’s collection in regard to the album and is a testimony to the group’s vigorous work ethic and signature aesthetic.
Emerging from their DIY scene in the late 90’s, they’re eccentricity manifests most in their full-length albums:  Gutter Tactics (2009), Abandoned Language (2007), Absence (2005), From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots (2002), and Negro Necro Nekros (1998), all released through Ipecac Recordings. Dalek supported these albums on tour for a decade and have performed with many influential artists including, but not limited to  KRS One, Tomahawk, The Melvins, TOOL, Grandmaster Flash, Jesu, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pharcyde, RJD2, DeLa Soul, Prince Paul, Lovage, ZU, Black Heart Procession, Gaslamp Killer, Earth, Flying Lotus, The Bug, Mastodon, and Fantomas.

After taking a break from the tour, virtuoso and producer, DJ Dalek revived the group during Spring of 2015, creating a new line-up consisting of DJ rEk who works the turn-tables and co-producer Mike Manteca who manages samplers and effects. The trio united to share their original, experimental sub-hip-hop genre through their long anticipated album, Asphalt for Eden.

June 9  Brooklyn, NY @ St. Vitus (Northside Festival)
July 8  Paris, FR @ Le Centquatre
July 15  Seattle, WA @ Highline
July 16  Portland, OR @ Analog Lounge
July 17  Sacramento, CA @ Starlite Lounge (Fuck Monday Fest)
July 18  Oakland, CA @ Golden Bull
July 19  Los Angeles, CA @ Complex
July 20  Phoenix, AZ @ Yucca Tap Room
July 23  Chicago, IL @ Reggie’s
