Midwayer Streaming 'Never Together' EP In Full

Georgia melodic metalcore outfit Midwayer is back with their sophomore release on the label. The concept EP, entitled Never Together, is now streaming in full. It features six new tracks and a special bonus track for the longtime fans of the band.

Check it out below!

Guitarist Gary Pounds had this to say, "Thematically, This is a very different recording than 'Thresholds'. Where 'Thresholds' was more ethereal, political and observational, 'Never Together' has a much more grounded subject basis. It's effectively a story of a man who has shut himself off from the world for so long, but is beginning to see the good in mankind. Removing himself from his cave to find the good in the world.

Anger, Fear, Disgust and coping with Death. But also intertwined with positivity, self-inspiration, and closure. These are the themes and the lyrical content comes from a very personal place and those experiences that inspired them. Musically, we wanted the sound to be reflective of these themes as well, While bringing back that early 2000's metal core style, mixed with more modern elements."

Misery Loves Company Streams EP

South Jersey-based post-emo band Misery Loves Company, comprised of members Jimmy Ruggiero, Mike Williams, Joe Mascio Jr., and Anthony Caggiano, recently signed with Revival Recordings and is excited to announce the early release of their new EP, Love Notes and Highways. The band has partnered with Pure Grain Audio to make this early release possible, and they are excited to let fans join in this experience.

Check it out below!

Love Notes and Highways follows the theme of horror, as the boys in the band are avid lovers of the film genre. Misery Loves Company does something unique with their music, embracing dark and twisted vibes while still portraying positive messages through their songs. The group prefers to focus on sensitive subjects like mental illness, relationship struggles, and self-hardship, in an attempt to create a safe space for fans and listeners to escape to.

Misery Loves Company writes and performs for the kids who consider themselves loners and outcasts, aiming to let their listeners know that they are not alone. They do something admirable with their music in the way they embrace tough subjects in their own unique method.

Most of the band members suffer from depression and anxiety themselves, and lead vocalist Jimmy Ruggiero does not hide it: “So many bands these days forget or are ashamed of their roots but we wear ours on our sleeve.” Ruggiero said of the EP: “This album is a collection of stories from the past three years of my life. Each one details the problems I faced while having to let go of a toxic relationship I was in and how in the wake of disaster and chaos I found hope and peace.”

Fans of Tim Burton will enjoy this album, as there is one particular song and music video combination for single “Dead and Buried” that romanticizes death and the possibility of an afterlife. The song is also a taste of the EP’s larger theme of horror. Misery Loves Company is worth checking out if you’re a fan of the morbid and macabre, and if you’re struggling with issues that you think you might be facing alone.

Check it out below!

The band is here to remind you that you’re not, and they’re proof that there is a safe space for everyone in the music industry. Check out the entire EP, Loves Notes and Highways, below, and listen to “Dead and Buried” up above!

Stream Joe Marson's Latest Single

Recently partnering with Paste Magazine, Joe Marson released his latest track, "No Retreat."

"No Retreat" is a bluesy, soulful track with cinematic quality reminiscent of the Deep South. The song features Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley, St. Vincent) on drums and Rob Calder (Passenger) on bass. Marson learned how to play slide guitar specifically for this song, which was originally written for a movie that never got made.

Check out the stream below!

Marson explains, "The song is about going all in, head first, fear first. into the unknown and into the dark. sometimes there's no way back and sometimes you have the chance to start over. I have been to the darkness and I found my way back. This was the first song of a bunch on the current record that I tracked with Matt Johnson on drums. Matt was someone I had watched play since I discovered Jeff Buckley at the age of 16. I idolized Jeff and his whole band including Matt who played on Grace as well as in his live group. He has gone on to become a legend in the drum world and plays with St. Vincent currently. Playing with him was amazing and we have since become friends. He's one of the smartest and goofiest dudes I know. 'No Retreat' holds a special place in my heart for that reason."

The Undecided Majors Stream "Gone Wrong"

Austin pop punk duo The Undecided Majors, have just streamed “Gone Wrong,” the latest single from their upcoming EP In Spite.

The Undecided Majors features Scott McCauley on Guitar, Bass, and Vocals, and Jake Fenton on Drums and Synths. The two men formed the group back in 2012 after their previous band, Line 45, went on hiatus. Their first EP, Redemption Rule, was released in May of 2013, and they’ve been working hard ever since. They’ve had shows nationwide, including at the famous Whisky A Go-Go in Hollywood. Not only that but they’ve shared the stage with some acts you’ve definitely heard of such as The Foo Fighters, Joan Jett, Sugar Ray, and Smash Mouth. That’s an impressive resume there.

Check out “Gone Wrong” right here on The Hook!

I’m a big fan of this track. It’s a solid pop punk anthem, with all the classic hallmarks you’d expect. You’ve got your dark lyrics set to catchy melodies and chord progressions, palm muted guitars, etc. Scott McCauley’s voice fits well within the genre. “Gone Wrong” has a great sound to it too, from a production and sound design standpoint. I’m also a fan of the catchy synth background parts.

I’m really looking forward to In Spite, which drops on December 2nd. Don’t touch that dial cause you’re sure to hear more about it from us pretty soon.

The Danger Of Falling Streams New EP

West Virginia’s The Danger of Falling have released their debut EP available for streaming!

The five track EP entitled Hope/Well is released via Imminence Records. The band hopes to become real contenders in the Hardcore Christian scene with this new record.

One of the group’s main influences is the teachings and themes of Christianity. The band is trying their best to live through God with the music they make together, something certainly admirable. After releasing a demo in 2014, the band gained a following by going back to the basics: playing shows. In the spring of 2015 they released a two song single getting the attention of Imminence Records. Since January of this year they have been working on the EP they are now ready to show the world.

According to Vocalist Lucas Smith, “We are exceptionally happy with the outcome of the new material and fully believe in every note and every line. Thank you for all the love you've given us!” The release includes the single “Myself/Alone” which is a killer track. With the help of the internet and social media, the group was able to get fans outside of their humble hometown of Morganstown, WV.

Xolos Release Debut Single

unnamed (7).jpg

Xolos (pronounced sho•los) is an electro pop production duo, who recently premiered their debut single "Do You Recall" on Ground Sounds last Friday, June 3rd.

Originally from SoCal, the group draws their inspiration from their Mexican heritage and a variety of different genres. From indie rock to poppy electronica. Xolos eclectic twist seamlessly merges different musical worlds into a unique, forward thinking formula, definitely for fans for STRFKR, Capital Cities, and Passion Pit. The infectious sound of "Do You Recall" is a sign of great things to come from Xolos.

The single's groovy electronic beat and airy vocals make for the perfect summer anthem.

The name Xolos is derived from the Nahuatl word Xoloitzcuintli, who were considered sacred dogs by the Aztec people. They believed the dogs could help the souls’ of their masters to safely navigate the depths of the underworld. The indigenous people of Mexico symbolize the Xoloitzcuintli as guardians and protectors from evil spirits.

As their name depicts, their single “Do You Recall” will purge your body of any demons leaving you no other choice but to celebrate a good time. Be sure to follow these guys on social media and listen to their debut single, “Do You Recall."

Prison Escapee Shares Single

Prison Escapee released their newest single, “Gunslinger.” This is the second single off his forthcoming album Disappearing Mountaintop.

Prison Escapee is the moniker of Los Angeles based producer, Erik David Hidde, who named the project after his best friend who hanged himself in his own cell after being put away for twenty-five to life. Musical inspiration for Hidde’s work has drawn from elements of post-rock, electronica, lo-fi field recordings and film scores. His new single, “Gunslinger” explores playful electronica beats decorated with dreamy and serene vocals.

Hidde’s faith is often represented through his music, having been raised in Fort Hunter, New York by a christian family. He produced his first musical works in college, as it was a requirement to completing his degree in multimedia. He hasn’t stopped since. After running the independent record label, Housewarming Records, out of New York from 2011-2013, Hidde has put all his focus into his original music as a means of expressing himself as well as filling an emotional void. After years of writing, recording, and producing, Hidde started Prison Escapee in 2015. Everyday, Hidde returns from his nine to five job and invests whatever time is left in the day to his original music. Both debut and sophomore albums were written, recorded, produced, and mixed in the comfort of his own living room.

Be sure to hear full-length album Disappearing Mountaintop, featuring both of Prison Escapee’s latest singles, on June 16th!

Earth Heart Announce Album & Share Single

unnamed (4).jpg

Hailing from Boston, the garage-rock group Earth Heart has announced their first full-length LP, Homesick. The album is due out on August 5th and they've just shared their first single from the record, the title track, “Homesick.”

You can listen to “Homesick” here!

The song has a raw, lo-fi, garage-rock energy that is sure to translate to the full album. It's worth a listen!

The band formed in 2013 when lead singer/guitarist Katie Cordiner met drummer Matt Axten at All Asia Cafe in Cambridge, MA. She was looking for a drummer to play at her solo show the next day, and he agreed to accompany her. They continued to play music together as a duo and became Earth Heart. They toured throughout the Northeast at venues like TT The Bears Place, Middle East upstairs, O'Briens, Out Of The Blue Gallery, and Zuzu.

They've recorded a few EPs before heading into the studio for their first full-length. It was recorded in January of this year at Napoleon Complex in Somverville, MA. Recently, while they were recording, they recruited Natan Keyes as a bassist.

ORBS Share "Exploded Birds"

With the combined forces of Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me), Ashley Ellyllon (Fear Before The March of Flames), and Adam Fisher(Fear Before The March of Flames) the music world is rocked with ORBS!

They are releasing their second album after a six year break to work on other projects. The second record, Past Life Regression, is produced by Briggs with help from Kris Hilbert Recording and Will Yip Mixing. The record is being released by Briggs' own Hogweed & Fugue Records via Equal Vision Records.

“Exploded Birds” is the first single of the album, and you can stream the track below!

The single takes the listener on a journey of chaos, suicide, and rebellion. The range of influences on this track represent the group’s wide array of talent. The song is its own concept album; watching the struggles of young person through a chaotic life. Much like Pink Floyd’s The Wall or The Who’s Quadrophenia. The song follows the protagonist as the tempo and lyrics change in this tale of pandemonium. Many of the lyrics act a voice in the mind of the protagonist, telling them to “prepare your body for death” and “release the dog they’ve got chained up."

This is the voice of the chaotic youth striving to go against the grain and raise hell. Then the protagonist is met with the past and future versions of themselves. The future protagonist reminisces the youthful past they once had that was “smothered out by routine." The future protagonist takes on their own life and regret changing it and becoming normal. This is a theme all of us as human beings experience, letting go of our youth and bracing for the end of our lives as we know it.

Instrumentally, the track takes the influences of each member of this powerhouse of an experiment. The intro feels like a New Wave track from the early 1980’s but with its own twists and turns. Then it comes into its own “acid rock”/punk environment smack in the middle of the track. As the song winds down, the feeling becomes slowed down and labored. Like the turn of a time the song turns into a folk rock ballad that speaks to the Bob Dylan or Neil Young in all of us.
This track makes me very excited to see what the rest of the album will be.

With an album titled, Past Life Regression, the band is expected to take us other lyrical and instrumental roller coasters!

Greaver Releases Album

Today, the Durham, North Carolina post-hardcore quintet Greaver released their debut full-length album!

The Faun was released through Cardigan Records. However, kind guys as they are, they streamed it ahead of time for your listening pleasure! It is a riveting listen front to back!

The Faun Track-List:
1. Last Breath
2. A Poisoned Well
3. Southfield
4. November Skin
5. Third Eye
6. Earth Rune
7. Moonlight, Snow
8. Grief Seeds
9. First Touch
10. Hang Up

For their debut album, Greaver- which features Michael Rozier and Micheal Townsel on guitars/vocals, Sean McNaught on guitar, Eli Wray on bass/vocals, and Travis Hall on drums/vocals- took quite the ambitious route. Throughout its ten tracks, The Faun spins a tale of a truly tragic nature.

Michael Rozier states: “The concept on ‘The Faun’ is a murder story that touches on racial turmoil. Leon is one of the album’s main characters and is the spirit that narrates the tracks ‘A Poisoned Well’ and ‘Earth Rune’. Leon’s memories act as ‘The Faun’ (much like the faun in Pan’s Labirynth), guiding every decision that Morgan (the female main character) makes.”

Stylistically, the band incorporates the intense urgency, emotional weight, and narrative elements of new-age screamo in the vain of Touche Amore, Defeater, and Pianos Become The Teeth as well as the heaviness of first-wave acts such as Pg. 99 and Orchid. Every mysterious, ink-stained layer of their music feels as though it was crafted intentionally, contributing to the overall well-structured and consistently engaging nature of their music.

The band also announced a line of tour dates spanning the East Coast, starting at the end of May. The band will be out with post-pop outfit and fellow NC natives Youth League.

Be sure to follow Greaver on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-date info and other goings-on.

Tour dates posted below!

Oxymorrons Release Remix

Blooming from the crevices of Queen’s concrete, alternate-urban hip-hop and pop pentad K.I., Deee, drummer, Marty Mayz, guitarist, Adam November, and guitarist, Joe Jordan, collectively known as Oxymorrons, afforded the world happy holidaze on 4/20 after debuting “Hello Me” (Colino Fresh Remix) shortly before their show with Waka Flocka Flames at Webster Hall in New York City. The group’s name epitomizes the dynamic of their sound.

The hard delivery of their hip-hop punchlines, ran away or preceded by smooth, synthetic vocals, layering mild loops of the accompanying instrumental, is often interrupted by cacophonous, glorious percussive reverberation. This is most evident in their song, “808 Clap;” Their rap verses ride womanly operatic vocals, the repetition of the phrase “808 Clap,” occasional bass kicks and claps, and at the end of the tune, the heavenly strumming of harp playing overlaying the singing drapes a blanket of flowers over the gravel and grime of their flow.

Their contrasting artistic style has classified their music as an entire spherical force of its own, rolling them into the direction of success, magnetizing the desire for collaborations from well acclaimed artists such as Travie McCoy, Saba, Marian Hill, Pharrell Williams, and Wynter Gordon. It has also led to band partnerships with companies such as RedBull, Rocawear, Converse, DeadBolt, Karmaloop, and Modify Watches.

Their all-encompassing, organic modus operandi in “Hello Me” (Colino Fresh Remix) and has set many stages ablaze including those which the band played on alongside Outkast, Gym Class  Heros, Ludacris, and Common. Check out the mesmerizing track in the link below:

The original, and a song that will be in their upcoming EP, Complex But Basic (anticipated release for later this year by Tommy Boy Entertainment), “Hello Me,” can be purchased on iTunes, or can serve as mood music for their custom online video game on their website!
