Up-and-Comer Alli Walker Has her 'Head In The Clouds'

Based in Toronto, EDM-pop singer-songwriter Alli Walker is stepping onto the music scene with her debut single, “Head In the Clouds.”

Check it out below!

Alli describes her music as “a fun, EDM-fused, pop sound with the musicality of funk and R&B,” and “Head In The Clouds” delivers just that. Alli says it took her a while to find her footing as an artist, but once she “stopped trying to fit in a mold and write songs that fit on the radio, that’s when I was able to find who I wanted to be as an artist and just write catchy songs about things I wanted to write about.”

Walker came up with the idea for “Head In The Clouds” when she was in the car, following the pattern of many other great artists and songs. Alli claims it’s one of her favorite songs “for it’s funky, outside-the-box, catchy, make-you-wanna-dance feel,” and it encompasses everything she was aiming for in a funky dance beat. Walker is looking to turn her music into a collaborative project with a team of people who think similarly to the way she does. She wants to make music people love listening to, and she certainly starts off on the right foot with “Head In The Clouds.”

Young Galaxy Make A Comeback With 'Stay For Real'

Montreal-based band Young Galaxy is sending a powerful message to their fans. In the midst of sociopolitical crises like the plight of foreign refugees and the recent United States presidential election, Young Galaxy is taking a stance with their new song, “Stay For Real.” Premiered on Gorilla vs. Bear, the track also marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new journey for Young Galaxy, as they are releasing it independently.

Check it out below!

The band released this powerful statement about their single: “We can no longer stand idly by and rely only on the people who shape the world for us culturally and politically. We must stay true to ourselves and feel the courage of our convictions in the face of polarizing political and personal views. But most of all, we must show empathy, compassion and love - even when faced with increasing existential threats, and fear and hostility. This song is a statement of intent, as we enter a new era, to hopefully serve as a reminder to ourselves of what our responsibilities are as artists in this troubled time.”

Young Galaxy makes a bold move by saying that their decision to move forward independently is an inherently political one. It is incredibly admirable of them to stand up and stand against injustice in a time like this, and it makes “Stay For Real” more than worth listening to. Young Galaxy should serve as a role model to other bands and artists during this time. Art is what will allow us to express ourselves freely and openly in a time when it feels as though important truths are being shut down and hidden in favor of those in charge. Art can bring us together in difficult times like the one the country is facing now. Artists have a responsibility to the truth, and to bringing people together in love and hope. It is important to make art that shows our opinions, and we should not be afraid to speak out on issues we feel strongly about. Young Galaxy is extremely passionate about their personal stance, and it comes through strongly in their music. As another facet of their dedication to fighting the good fight, Young Galaxy has partnered with Plus1 so that all net proceeds from the sale of “Stay For Real” will go towards three organizations that advocate for the rights of marginalized groups: PIVOT (Canada), the ACLU (USA), and W.A.V.E (EU). Listen to “Stay For Real.”

Follow Young Galaxy’s example, and make art that sends a message. Keep making art in the face of war and injustice. Make your voice heard, and do not be afraid to stand up and speak out. Be defiant, be brave, and be bold. “Stay For Real” encourages that.

VISTA Announces 'The Stripped Sessions'

Long Island-based anthem rock band VISTA have just released their new single, “Henchmen,” but that doesn’t mean they’re slowing down any time soon. “The Stripped Sessions,” their new acoustic series, will launch on YouTube this month. The first video in the series is a single-guitar version of their 2016 track “Mansions.”

Check it out below!

The video gives viewers an idea of what “The Stripped Sessions” will encompass: a new, stripped-down side to VISTA never before seen by audiences. The YouTube series nudges the band in a fresh new direction while they are getting ready to create their next EP.

Rock Sound has named VISTA as one of their “On The Radar” bands to watch, and VISTA is certainly living up to the title as their presence is being recognized in the press and on social media. Their latest single, “Henchmen,” sends a powerful message of unity in the face of oppression and a reminder to stay strong to those who face it. Their song addresses an issue which is all too relevant in modern society. “The single is a big, anthemic, and energetic testament to what this band is capable of,” says Substream Magazine. Along with the recent release of “Henchmen,” the band was seen in New York City supporting Fueled by Ramen artist Against The Current. Their second EP will be released later this spring.
