Hannah Lorimer Celebrates Debut Single, 'Alive'

Photographer: Courtney Kehr

Photographer: Courtney Kehr

After tireless hard work & dedication, we are excited to announce the celebration of a debut release from Philadelphia’s own, Hannah Lorimer.

The Illinois native has been creating, performing and supporting local music & artists since 2013 here in Philadelphia - and has now, finally, put out her debut single, “Alive.” The track is sweet, sultry, and romantic in all ways that we’ve all always known & loved with Lorimer’s music. The singer & songwriter has really crafted something special & unique, which can be a feat in itself: a track that shows off Lorimer’s distinct sound.

Check it out below!

“Alive” is upbeat, but remains grounded in gentle lyricism, and the powerhouse that is Lorimer’s voice. There isn’t a single moment in the song where you’re questioning where Lorimer is bringing you. It feels confident, fluid & matured, as if Hannah herself knows that the content she is putting out is content that needs to be heard - and so, we hear it.

The 5-minute long track is what we hope is the first of many, whether that be more singles, or even a full album. Either way, Hannah Lorimer is always gigging here in Philadelphia, and we’ve included her social media down below so you never miss a beat!

"In The Dark" Is The Latest From The Caracals

IMG_5241.jpg

With a stellar mixture of garage rock roots and indie sound, The Caracals are bringing their own fresh twist to the scene. With a beginning in Orange County, California, the new project is inspired by gritty, noisy bands like The Black Keys or The Last Shadow Puppets. Their latest release, "In The Dark" is a conceptual single with hints of surf rock and contemporary twists.

We have it streaming down below for you, and we couldn't be more excited about it! Check it out down below.

The moody, brooding single is the set up for a hopeful 2018 EP from The Caracals and we'll agree that we're hopeful too. According to the band, their mission is "...to craft exciting down-to-earth tracks that are filled to the brims with chunky guitar riffs, energetic vocals and steady rhythm sections with a retro feel."

You heard it here, so to keep up with the up and comers, check out their social media down below!

New Single From Foxanne To Knock Your Socks Off

untitled.png

In anticipation of their upcoming EP release, Hafling, Foxanne is celebrating the new year with new music and we couldn't be happier! The Brooklyn 3-piece took inspiration from a night spent with someone not so worth spending time with - which we basically all can relate to.

"Whiskey and Strawberries" captures the essence of that feeling, and bottles it up for one heck of a listening experience. Lucky for you (and us) we've got it streaming below for you via Soundcloud!

Lead singer/songwriter and guitarist Foxanne is supported by synth player Michael J Harris and Julliard trained percussionist Andrew Funcheon. The band are regulars around the east coast, especially Philadelphia and New York City. With a sound like that can you blame them?

Of course we're excitingly awaiting Hafling, but until then, stream this bad boy and check out Foxanne's social media down below to never miss an update!

CSF'17 Saturday phone-8.jpg

One month into 2018 and Swedish musician Petrus Nordh is already onto their second single!

"Blank Piece of Paper" is the latest release, and according to Petrus Nordh, the musician is using a guitar tuning of his own invention, playing both guitar and bass at the same time. Later on adding vocals, keyboard and percussion. The "syncopated, latin tinged funk groove" is mainly influenced by D’Angelo, Charlie Hunter and Sly & The Family Stone while the lyrics deal with the creative process and realizing nothing will be done if you don’t just start.

Beshiba Anticipates New Album With New Single

Photography: Jacob Williamson

Photography: Jacob Williamson

South Carolina's very own, Beshiba, is celebrating the upcoming release of their sophomore EP, Worthless, by sharing the second single off of the November 4th release! The song, "F.E.L" features a guest spot from Garett Hood, the vocalist/drummer of Guerrilla Warfare.

Check out the track below streaming for free on Bandcamp!

According to Beshiba, "The basis of the song came from the chant, which is rooted from the perspective of being an outcast from society and refusing to conform to the standards of every day life to which the mainstream imposes on you. It's about being a dreamer and looking beyond every day life and those precedents & values which are forced on you, and using your anger as a driving force to push through all that to achieve & get what you want out of life. On the other hand, the other parts of the song reference suburban kids who had everything handed to them on a golden plate who never really experienced hardship or poor upbringing, but try to pretend like they know what struggle is."

esides the anticipation of Worthless, Beshiba also recently announced a November tour, we've provided dates below! In the meantime, the single is available for free download on our Bandcamp as well as on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, & Google Play!

To keep up with any new announcements that Beshiba will be putting out, check out their social media to never miss a moment!

Sunset Lines Shares New Single 'The Miles'

San Francisco's own Sunset Lines have shared a new little slice of pop rock heaven for listeners recently called "The Miles." The beach-y tune is a chirpy little song that slides in nicely with your current summer playlist!

Check out "The Miles" below streaming via Soundcloud!

The song premiered on Impose Magazine where the band detailed, “This is a song about leaving home and the pangs of guilt/sadness that hang over you before the excitement of being in a new life sets in. We wanted the contrast of the bright guitar hooks/shimmering synth to offset the more somber tone of the lyrics.”

The single is a sweet, vintage sounding piece that is perfect for listening while the sun sets through a window in your house, (this has been tested). So, check it out, and to keep up with Sunset Lines, check out their social media below!

Fairy Bones New Single Is A Genre Blend You Don't Want To Miss

Arizona-based alternative quartet Fairy Bones has recently released a fast-paced music video for their latest single "No One Can Suffer Like I Can."

Check it out below!

Vocalist Chelsey Louise addresses her own struggles with depression with a self-effacing sense of humor in the song, "I'll tell myself, ‘Suck it up b---h, there's so much worse happening in the world.'," says Louise. "But I realized, if I don't help myself first, I'm cornering myself into being useless to others. I need to save myself before I can save anyone else. I use humor to mask the fact that I'm ‘suffering.’ So do others. Misery loves company and all that. It's kind of nice when someone else understands that. Just ’cause I post something nihilistic doesn't mean you need to be worried. I'm still working this all out myself so I don't want to come off like I have all the answers, or any answers for that matter, but that's where I'm at in my head right now"

SØF Releases New Single

Indie pop artist SØF is on a roll with releasing new music, dropping single after single. Her new track, “One Night,” is the fifth one, following four previous releases in 2017. This new song is a satisfying blend of the singer/songwriter’s spunky personality and her powerful voice, offering a deeper look into who exactly SØF is as an artist. She’s had a promising debut in the indie-pop sphere with her previous singles, and “One Night” launches her farther into the genre and solidifies her place in the music world.

About the single, SØF said: “’One Night’ is the story of how I met one of the most special people in my life. They say love happens when you least expect it, and that’s completely true. My freshman year of college I met a guy that I thought was super cute and neither of us thought that our initial reaction would lead to anything. But, like I say in the song, ‘not quite.’ You never know where life will take you.”

Following the pattern of SØF’s previously released singles, “One Night” has an inspiring theme and a message to it that makes it worth listening to. Check it out, and keep an eye out for any new updates from SØF on her social media!

Ten Cents Short Release Music Video for "Higher Powers"

Massachusetts pop-punk quartet Ten Cents Short have released a new video for their song “Higher Powers”, which is from from their upcoming sophomore EP Major Steps, Minor Setbacks.

The concept for the video plays on the idea of a band signing a major deal and having everything changed about them.  Throughout the video, the band is constantly pestered by a staff member/director from the label constantly wants to make changes to what they wear and how they do things. Eventually, the whole band themselves are replaced by other people, at which point they fight back against the changes and walk away from the whole thing.

According to the band’s vocalist/bassist Aaron Couto, “Higher Powers” is “a song about working hard and putting your all into something, meanwhile someone else gets all the glory. The moral of the song is to always stand for what you believe in and don't let anyone be your puppet master."

The video was directed by Dan Fried of Just Fly Casual Productions and the entire record was co-written, engineered, mixed and mastered by Chris Piquette at No Boundaries Studios. The EP Major Steps, Minor Setbacks is scheduled for release on May 26th, and the EP can be pre-ordered now on the band’s website.

New Single “Allegiance” from VISTA

Anthem rock group VISTA is back once again with a new single, called “Allegiance.” This new track follows the previously released “Henchmen” and stands as the lead song from VISTA’s upcoming EP, due for release later this summer.

The message of “Allegiance” is about calling for fans of the band to join their own personal allegiances, and like most musicians, VISTA wants their fans to find a safe space in their music. VISTA is a combination of lead vocalist Hope Vista and guitarist/singer Greg Almeida, and “Allegiance” shows off their chemistry in performing together.

“Allegiance” goes hand in hand with “Henchmen,” the themes of both songs blend together in a way that makes it clear the full EP will have a larger connecting theme, as well. The band offered this statement about the new single: “’Allegiance’ picks up pretty much right where our last single ‘Henchmen’ left off, as the last single was an anthem of oppression. This is an anthem of resistance and banding together.”

Revolution is where it’s at, and “Allegiance” screams it. With their music, VISTA carves out their own sub-genre in the alternative scene: anthem rock. They’re all about making music that people can get behind, music that will make people rally, music that makes people want to stand for something.

“Allegiance” is a powerhouse track that speaks to a worthy cause. Listen to it down below, and stay connected with VISTA on social media for more updates on when their full EP will be released.

Julian Fulton's New Single "Rosie's Disposition" Out Now

Songwriter Julian Fulton recently shared his new single, “Rosie’s Disposition,” off his upcoming EP, Battered Receptions. Fulton says the song is about “feeling caged, trying to convince yourself you’re happy, until finally running off in pursuit of something substantially more fulfilling.” The description certainly fits with the song, which includes some train sounds and is reminiscent of running away to find better days.

“Rosie’s Disposition” has some beautiful harmonies in the back half and a melodious guitar riff that I’m obsessed with, and it definitely makes me excited for the full release of Battered Receptions.

Battered Receptions will be Fulton’s third self-released EP, slated for release on May 12th, and the proceeds from the pre-order of the album will go towards the ACLU! Julian Fulton performs solo or with his band, The Zombie Gospel, and Battered Receptions is another of his solo explorations as his fellow band members go off to pursue school or job opportunities.

If the rest of the songs on the EP are anything like “Rosie’s Disposition,” it promises to be a successful release.

Fulton first performed at age 17, and since then, he has been making strides in the music world. Whether he’s solo or working with The Zombie Gospel, he delivers genre-bending music that pulls you in and makes you want more. I’ll be marking my calendar for the release of Battered Receptions, and I’m probably going to listen to “Rosie’s Disposition” ten more times before the EP comes out.

Catch Julian Fulton live at a couple of his upcoming shows below! (Also don’t forget to pre-order the EP so you can support the ACLU!) Do yourself a favor and listen to “Rosie’s Disposition,” and then get inspired by it and hop on a train to a random place. And then listen to the song again while you’re on the train. It’s that kind of track.

Tour dates:
5/20 – John & Peter’s – New Hope, PA

Deadfellow Shares New Single In Anticipation For Release

Photography: Stef Sexton

Photography: Stef Sexton

In anticipation for his June 9th release of Mescalifornia: A California Dream, Deadfellow has released his first single off of the album for listeners! And if you know anything about The Hook, it's that we're huge fans of Deadfellow.

"Miss California" is, in many ways, reminiscent of Deadfellow's previous work. For fans and listeners, this means that the Deadfellow you know and love isn't going to be pulling out anything too absurd for this new album (we think, I mean mostly we assume).

The things you love about the singer/songwriter like the smooth, deep, billowing voice, the semi-sarcasm that lurks in the foreground, the haunting nature of the instrumental background all working together to create the lushness of Deadfellow. Enough of us gushing about this, check out "Miss California" streaming below!

We're anticipating that 6/9 release as much as the next Deadfellow fan, so check out the single streaming above, and then check out Deadfellow's social media to keep up on any updates the artist may be sharing!

This is something you don't want to miss!

Stay Inside Release 'Radio Silence'

Brooklyn-based post-hardcore band, Stay Inside, has released their single “Radio Silence” in anticipation of the April 21st release of their debut EP, As You Were.

Check out their demo to get a taste of Stay Inside below!

Vocalist/guitarst Bartees Cox, Jr. says of the new single, "Thematically, 'Radio Silence' is a song about how people in relationships change over time and the choices people have to make to get through those situations. By the end of the song, we get to a point where we’re just happy to be drinking and partying instead of worrying about the next hard decisions and changes that are to come."

Each drawing from their experience living in vastly different parts of the country from the others, the four aim to take a stance in their new music on behalf of the marginalized, the depressed and anyone looking to challenge the rituals of conformity.

Cox describes the purpose of their music, “…“To show folks all over that whether it’s about significant others, family, cops, misogyny, racism, or anything else, they have four friends in Brooklyn yelling and screaming for them.” Stay Inside being a diverse group themselves, he also notes, “I grew up listening to so many hardcore and emo bands wondering why they didn’t have more black kids in them,” and “…the amount of women in emo/post-hardcore was disappointing.”

Keep a watchful eye for the release of As You Were on April 21 (self release). In the meantime, catch Stay Inside at a show and check out their social media below!

Stay Inside tour dates:
4/14 - The Fat House - Philadelphia, PA
4/20 - The Gateway - Brooklyn, NY

Evening Darling Share New Single

NYC-based band Evening Darling dropped "Another Long Drive," the latest single off of their forthcoming self-titled debut album.

You can check out the single below!

The track premiered via PureVolume where the band's Nick Lerangis shared, "I started this song years ago with my friend Marc Lacuesta, sitting on his porch in Nashville. Both of us were in uncertain relationship situations: he was just starting to date someone new, I had been with someone who had moved out of the country and I couldn't stop thinking about her."

"Years later, when I brought it into Evening Darling, Erica wove in memories from our first tour, when we had no idea we were ever going to survive as a band. You only have your own perspective on memories: maybe something that holds huge romance for you is just something fun and fleeting to the other person. Maybe it's not. When you're in an unstable place you tend to cling to good memories, and 'Another Long Drive' is a picture of that instability."

Check out the soundcloud stream of Evening Darling's new track above, or check out their social media to stay up to date!

Tilia Releases Single, "Black Monday"

Swiss singer-songwriter Tilia recently put out "Black Monday" - a single off her upcoming album release, Pattern. The pop rock track has a deep 90's sounds to it; I felt like it was 1995 hearing the phaser-heavy guitars and slightly fuzzy bass throughout. However, this isn't to say that "Black Monday" is a tired, 90's-esque single - Tilia gives the track her own little flavor that makes it refreshing enough to enjoy in 2017.

To experience the *only-90's-kids-will-remember* nostalgia, you can stream "Black Monday" below!

Interestingly enough (yet not surprising), Tilia is much more popular in Europe, which I'd credit to her Swiss background. You can definitely hear her Euro-influence with her vocal delivery and pronunciation. It's as if she is a Swiss, female version of Billy Corgan leading her once-triumphant Smashing Pumpkins on a light, pop rock journey. Seriously though - how depressing are the Smashing Pumpkins? It's literally just Billy Corgan now surrounded by zero founding members. Ugh.

However, what's not depressing is Tilia and her 90's-esque pop rock track "Black Monday"! It's perfect for a rainy day as it contains very cloudy, slow rock elements ideal during a ride into town for bagels and coffee after the storm. Besides her 90's undertones, I'd compare her to artists like Lorde.

Otherwise, while you wait for Tilia's impending LP release Patterns due out next monthkeep up with the Swiss artist on her social media below!
