CoolDad Music Celebrates 5 Years

Being a writer myself, it is always an accomplishment when a peer has something to celebrate - and this year, fellow music blog, CoolDad Music are celebrating their 5th year! And what a celebration to be had.

The award winning music site will be spending this special occasion (how else, honestly) by throwing a fantastic show - looking back and applauding 5 years of countless reviews, local show bookings and all around support of local music credited to Jim Appio!

Jim Appio had this to say on the exciting, upcoming event:

"I've never worked harder on anything than I have on CoolDad Music; and not one, single moment of it in five years has ever felt like work. I've become that cliché about following your passion. In that way, I feel like I can identify with many of the bands I cover.

"dolllys, Smalltalk, The Rock N Roll Hi-Fives, and Shellshag are all close friends of the site and continue to inspire me. dollys are students of classic pop music and, simply, one of my favorite bands. Smalltalk take me back to those days of tooling around the Jersey Shore and listening to WHTG. The Rock N Roll Hi-Fives are a shining example of how the family who rocks together, stays together. And Shellshag exemplifies staying true to your passion and doing things on your own terms.

"I'm honored that the Asbury Lanes Family have agreed to co-present the show. There would be no CoolDad Music without Asbury Lanes, and I hope we can achieve a little bit of the vibe of that place at the anniversary show."

The big party will be happening Saturday, March 25th at The Overlook at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ featuring performances by ShellshagdollysSmalltalk and The Rock N Roll Hi Fives!

You can check out the Facebook event right here, and be sure to get to the celebration! Check out CoolDad's links below for more info!

Outerloop Records founder, Mike Mowery, states, "One of the first things that we discussed with Cooking Vinyl was the importance of live shows for our artists.  Developing artists requires getting them in front of people, and we are excited to give the fans of these bands, and the music industry professionals in the greater NYC area, the opportunity to see all of our bands in one place on one night.  We plan to make the evening a fun one including some gifts, prizes and contests."

So we asked all our friends and family in music to come together for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It didn't matter what genre they were or how established they are. Good Vibes Only and the bicoastal Common Ground festivals are purely about good music for a good cause. No contribution is too small and we hope you will be a part of it with us."

Street Sects Make Announcement & Release Single

For those of you who haven't been informed of the existence of Street Sects, the filthy and ferocious noise-punk duo that bubbled up from the darkest depths of the Austin, TX, music scene... now you have.

Recently, this band announced not only their signing to experimental label The Flenser, but the imminent drop of their label debut as well. The album, titled End Position, is set for a September 16th release date. The album is reportedly a meditation on suicide fantasy, both the means and the cause. Based on their prior releases, their misanthropic sound will cater well to such a subject matter.

End Position Track listing:
1.  And I Grew Into Ribbons
2.  Copper In The Slots

3.  In Defense of Resentment
4.  Featherweight Hate
5.  Our Lesions
6.  Victims of Nostalgia
7.  Black Din
8.  Feigning Familiarity
9.  Collared, Kept
10.  If This Is What Passes For Living

In the meantime, the band dropped a particularly chaotic bread crumb titled "And I Grew Into Ribbons". It is less of a song and more of an aural representation of a drugged-up joy ride through all nine rings of Hell over the course of three minutes and fourteen seconds. I mean this in the most endearing way possible, for the marriage of Leo Ashline's unhinged vocal delivery and Shaun Ringsmuth's gritty, gutter-scrapingly gnarly production is truly spectacular. Hear the single below.

The band is playing shows in their immediate area, but it does not look like they have any immediate plans to tour.

Regardless, be sure to follow them if you are excited so you can stay up-to-date and possibly cop some fine pre-order goodies in the process. Also, check out their Bandcamp, as their earlier releases are insanely addictive as well. As always, stay tuned for more frenetic south-western frenzy!
