The Flatliners Release New Video 'Indoors'

unnamed (2).jpg

Toronto's The Flatliners released a brand new music video recently for their track "Indoors." The video takes place at a local karaoke night, where the patrons are only interested in singing 'Indoors,' and those participants are clearly ready to fight to keep "Indoors" playing all night long.

Check out the smooth little diddy below!

Frontman Chris Cresswell says, "'Indoors' comes from a place of deep winter isolation and serious reflection - with the help of some burning paper and that familiar smell. Nights like that, that can really help take you to where you want to be once the snow melts."

He adds, "So now that it's summertime when you're out with your friends burning the candle at both ends, enjoy it, cause the snow's gonna fall before you know it. This one's for all those karaoke kings and queens out there, singing along like no one's watching."

Of the new single, “Puzzle Pieces,” Broadside front-man Ollie Baxxter says, “As I’m getting older and the band progresses, we’re being put into situations where we have the opportunity to reach a wider audience. Do we take advantage of those opportunities or stay true to who we are and express our ideals? Eventually you must ask yourself, at what cost does this come? Do I edit myself or do I speak the harsh reality of the creative industry? Puzzle pieces – it takes one piece to either start or finish an entire piece of art.”

That strong statement also fits pretty well with the theme of the Paradise album as a whole. Broadside worked with bands like New Found Glory and All Time Low to build Paradise, and they are extremely proud of the album, saying that it’s “the sound we have been trying to achieve our whole career.”

Until the album drops (preorder it now), you can listen to “Puzzle Pieces” on repeat, and get your tickets for the nearest stop on the tour. Keep up with Broadside on social media for more announcements.

The Eiffels Release New Album

LA trio The Eiffels released their sophomore EP You Got Me this week and they are streaming it with Idobi Radio. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ethan Kaufmann (Wild Party) and Will Briere (The Killers, Walk The Moon, Neon Trees), the 3 song EP reveals a band diving deep into their 80s influences. In the album are shades of Bruce Springsteen and Phil Collins, although fans of contemporary music might here influence from The Bleachers or The Wombats.

"We're really excited to finally release the new EP," says vocalist Sean Ulbs. "We recorded these tracks after an ambitious U.S. tour, and the ways we grew musically, and as a band, come through in these songs."

Check out their video for "Coming to See You."

2016 was filled with all kinds of success for this group, especially after seeing their music appear in television shows (MTV’s Are You The One, The Only Way Is Essex), magazines (Relix Magazine), and were 2016 Unsigned Only - Alternative Artist winners (judges included The Killers and The Struts). They did this all while becoming regulars at some of LA’s favorite music venues.

The Soul Shakers Release Debut Music Video

Nashville rockers The Soul Shakers have recently premiered a music video for their debut single “Here to Have a Good Time.”

The Soul Shakers features Elias Paul Reidy (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) and Brett Hellings. The duo formed with the mission of bringing back old fashioned kick ass rock and roll. “Here to Have a Good Time” succeeds in this endeavor, and makes you think of bands like Aerosmith and Guns n Roses. Who knew simple straightforward rock could be such a breath of fresh air? Even the video lines up with this idea, using the old standard of crazy parties, beautiful girls, and unlikely performances.

"Here to Have a Good Time” is our definition of straight up rock n’ roll and a short story of where we come from and how we met. We hope this song makes you want to get up, shake what you got, grab a shot and have a good time.” – The Soul Shakers

The duo is set to release a full length LP soon, recorded at Soundmine studios in Philadelphia. The record was produced by Dan Malsch ((Motionless in White, Tantric, Framing Hanley). The album also features Chuck Treece of Bad Brains on drums.

Keep your eyes on The Hook for more news about The Soul Shakers' upcoming album!

Neaux Release New Video, Announce New Album.

Brooklyn based shoegaze band Neaux have released their first single and music video for their upcoming debut album Fell Off the Deep End.

Harking back to the days of Lush and Sonic Youth, Neaux are part of the recent resurgence of the shoegaze sound. Muddy guitars, dreamy vocals, and soothing melodies are the centerpieces of that sound. Originally formed by the main songwriters Sierra Kay and Nick Fit, Neaux was soon joined by Ryan Briggs and Chris Peters to fill out the sound.

The new song “Make Me Stay” is the first track we get to hear from the band’s upcoming release. The video is simple, featuring Kay and Fit, and utilizing a number of almost unsettling camera angles. It’s also strikingly red. The video fits the song excellently.

Fell Off the Deep End will be released on September 16 from Iron Pier records.

1. Slowstroll
2. Somewhere Up North
3. High Hopes
4. Only Lonely
5. Make Me Stay
6. Beaten Bruised and Over It
7. Deep Dive

Under Paris Share Music Video For New Single

Metalcore quartet Under Paris release a video for their new single “Revive.” With this new single, they also toured with Ashes of My Regret and Set For Tomorrow. The tour began in Beckley, WV and finished Saginaw, MI!

According to Vocalist Michael Alexander, “Revive’ is more than just a song to us. It’s a new beginning. It’s a fresh start. For me personally it’s about getting a lot of things of my chest and saying what I’ve been thinking and feeling for the past two years. You hear the phrase ‘turning the page’ a lot but this is so much more. This is us closing the book on what we use to be and starting something new. This is us, being honest and being real. This is us moving on, this is us growing. This is our Revive.”

The band has been going strong since September 2012 beginning with a release of their first single, “If the Drugs Don’t Work, Can You Drive Me Home?” which featured Rene Lopez of Scarlett O’Hara. Their prolific work consists of two singles off of their first EP Our Stories and others off of their full length entitled “Transitions.” The band is very pleased to be signed to Imminence Records and hope to reach a larger audience with this single.

"You Don't Love Me Anymore" is the second single to be released from Gillespie's forthcoming solo acoustic album, entitled Out of the Badlands, which is due out August 19th via Tooth & Nail. On the new video, Gillespie shares, "The video for "You Don't Love Me Anymore" is beautiful, number one, but I think it also really speaks to the nature of the song. It's sparse, afraid and alone"

Out of the Badlands is a mix of old and new, and writing this album was a therapeutic release for Gillespie. He says, "This is the healing process, this record, and the making of it pulled me through". With refreshed versions of the Underoath classics like "A Boy Brushed Red Living In Black and White" and "Reinventing Your Exit", The Almost fan-favorites including "Say This Sooner" and "Southern Weather:, covers of "Where The Streets Have No Name: by U2 and "Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Rait, as well as new original tracks, including "Raspberry Layer Cake", which was released by Gillespie last year, the acoustic album is raw and has something for everyone.

Roots Like Mountains Release Video

Aggressive rock outfit Roots Like Mountains have just released a new single and a new music video to accompany it!

The song is called  “Dead Man,” and the video was directed by Codey Dingfield and features the band performing among images and scenes of a tortured mental patient at a less-than-savory institution.

You can watch the video right here!

"The new single stems from a place of questioning what we have been told and feeling as if you have lost it all in the process of finding the answers you're looking for," says vocalist Nathan Vogt. "We are excited to release the first single off of our forthcoming record. "Dead Man" is a culmination of our thoughts, fears, and questions. It dives into the mind of a man who has lost everything being "trapped in his skin." Psychosis... We hope "Dead Man" will spark like thoughts and push our fans to start asking questions. To dig deeper into the "why" instead on just taking what you have been told at face value. This is just the beginning!"

Brand New Music Video From Taylor Colson

Beaming from the “sunshine state,” South Florida pop-artist, Taylor Colson, widely respected for her impressive vocal range and ability to recreate current Top 40 hits into her own masterpieces, exclusively releases her new music video, “You Want It” with Paste Magazine.

The basic composition of the tune most reflects “Jealous” by Nick Jonas who is one of the many artists she covered. Other artists include but are not limited to Demi Lavato, BEBE Rexha, Justin Bieber, and Meghan Trainor. Her cover videos have become a sensation on Youtube, accumulating upward of half a million views and securing her a solid online presence and fan base. In addition, the videos had landed her recognition from MTV and features in popular retail stores such as Steve Madden, and Justice worldwide.

“You Want It” is a song from her forthcoming EP and was a personal track written after she had a fight with her boyfriend and is about the desire of wanting to feel secure in a relationship. The EP it itself is  merely an audible, chronological tale of the first time she fell in love. She explains:
I think getting into a relationship for anyone is a scary thing no matter how right it may feel. The EP is a representation of fully giving yourself to someone but letting them know very clearly not to hurt you or play games.

Colson worked with a team of people at a company based in South Florida, Afflux studios to produce both the song and video  [Song- Producer: Arcaeus, Engineer: Bryan James, Mix & Mastered: Bryan James, Written By: Bryan James, Erik Chokanis, Taylor Colson, Video- Director & Editor: Bobby Keegan].

Mix-and-mash artist, Taylor Colson constructed her own organic sound from the pop music that she covered in the beginning of the career. Her first performance was at the age of 5 in front of a crowd of 500. For many, performing anything in front of a group as small as ten people would push sweat through their palms, but the young prodigy put on a show like a well-established professional. Making herself comfortable and familiar with the stage at an early age enabled her to pursue her career full time at the age of 15. Five years later at 20 years old, she now prepares to release her original debut EP.

Catch Taylor Colson opening for B.O.B on June 25th in South Florida at The Hangar. For tickets and more information, visit her website.

New Lyric Video From For The Likes Of You

Nothing has hit Aberdeen, Washington quite as hard as the newest release from melodic metalcore juggernauts For The Likes Of You, whose new EP Withered came out on June 3rd.

If you’ve listened to it in full, you may agree that the track “Bewildered”, which was released as its single, is arguably the best song on the EP. Therefore, it’s only fitting that “Bewildered” receives a lyric video to go along with it. The song combines driving, in-your-face metalcore and unforgiving, Acacia Strain-inspired deathcore riffage with their warm, nostalgically beautiful and uplifting melody to create a uniquely varied, seemingly conflicting but ultimately refreshing sound.

Check it out below!

Things have been picking up for the band, which consists of Austin Dickey on rough vocals, Jestin Peterson and Zack Holtzer on guitar, Ryne Olson playing bass and covering cleans, and Devin Kite on drums.

Other than the release of their EP, For The Likes Of You is scheduled to play in Washington this summer with some reputable names in the metal scene, including Bodysnatchers and Misery Signals. With opportunity offers like that coming their way, don’t be surprised to see them all the way out here in the East soon enough.

Withered Tracklist:
1.    Discretion
2.    Villains & Victims (feat. Zesty Sams)
3.    Ghost Pains
4.    Bewildered
5.    Hope(less)

Withered, which came out on June 3rd, is in and of itself an astounding effort, one which is very conscious and calculated about its use of melody and the extents of heaviness the band is willing to reach into in order to create something special. The band has a heavy Betraying The Martyrs vibe due to their astounding vocalist Austin Dickey’s penchant for unforgivingly heavy vocal delivery, which delves down to the nastiest of gutturals, that works seamlessly into the melodic metalcore writing. “Bewilderment” may be the best track off the EP, but readers are strongly advised to check out the rest of the album, which is available for purchase right here.

For The Likes Of You are nothing to be messed with, and listeners are strongly encouraged to follow these boys on Facebook and Twitter to make sure they don’t miss a single shred of up-to-date info.

With all hopes high, we may be able to catch them if they come through the Philly area. Until then we’ll keep dreaming, so as always, stay tuned for more!

New Music Video Out From Climate Control

Climate Control has released a new single & music video, “Little Mess.” This is the follow-up single to the South African alternative group's “Ghosts.” These recent singles mark new ground for the band as they experiment with their sound to reach a wider audience.

Climate Control is Nicolas Gonzalez on vocals and guitar, Luca Zeeman on guitar, Jacques du Toit on drums, Wesley Smuts on the bass, and Brooklyn J. Pakathi on synths.

You can watch the music video for “Little Mess” right here! The video includes an assorted cast of passerby's interacting with the lead singer, Nick Gonzales, as he walks steadily forward. The video was directed by band member Brooklyn J. Pakathi.

“'Little Mess' marks a change in pace for us,” said Nick Gonzalez, the vocalist, “A little less aggressive with a heavier focus on melody, while still being energetic. Lyrically, it deals with the concept of loss, and coming to terms with the inevitability of that loss. It's a tough subject, but one that we've all had to & will have to face at some point."

Climate Control is gearing up for something big with these new singles, so make sure to stay alert here for further news.

Weatherhead Premieres New Music Video

Today, Weatherhead premieres their music video for "Contact," and we're probably crying about it.

"Contact" comes off of Weatherhead's most recent EP, Cleaner Blood - and the music video is a first for the band, which is a really exciting development and direction for these Philly locals to be headed in!

The video was created thanks to director and friend of Weatherhead, Johnny Costa, and we have the music video below for you to check out!

The video explores a really interesting 'groundhog day' tactic, you know like the movie with Bill Murray - which lead singer Evan and guitarist Jordan co-wrote with director Johnny.

Also, in our opinion (which probably doesn't matter, but we're going to tell you anyway) "Contact" is a perfect song for their debut music video - and we'll tell you why. The song is a really impactful, emotional, and cathartic representation of Cleaner Blood. It also shows a huge and important amount of growth from their Weatherhead EP to their most recent recognized style - it's growing up and maturing. Lastly, "Contact" is the final track on the EP - and truly acts as this call to answer for Cleaner Blood.

I'm just super impressed, alright. It's like when you read a book and they make a movie and the movie is exactly what you saw in your head. Like, Fight Club. Except, this is Weatherhead.

Definitely watch the video if you haven't already. Listen to Cleaner Blood, tell Weatherhead your favorite joke. The Hook is super stoked on this video, and you should be too!

Check out their social media for more on the music video and upcoming events!

Tomemitsu Shares Video & Album

unnamed (3).jpg

Recently, L.A. Record premiered the video, directed by ETA, for “Vacation,” off of Tomemitsu’s upcoming record, Loaf Eye.

Tomemitsu says, “‘Vacation’ is a song that I wrote all the lyrics to while on vacation in Mexico in 2014. I like it because it brings me back to the beach, reading in the shade while the waves roll in. The feelings of total relaxation and peacefulness come back to me when I hear and play this one.”

Check out the video below!

Tomemitsu, a Los Angeles-based lo-fi and dream pop musician, has spent over two years working on his sophomore record, Loaf Eye, following 2013 debut, m_o_d_e_s. After the cassette sold out, his audience quickly grew to a more worldwide following, especially after HBO series, “High Maintenance” credited Tomemitsu’s songs, “In Dreams” and “Runaway.”

Loaf Eye is the product of two years work, patience, introspection, and collaboration. There are appearances by Colleen Green, Devin Ratliff and Erik Felix of So Many Wizards, as well as Christina Gaillard and James Roehl of Crown Plaza. And Earlier this week, Tomemitsu played an album release show at The Smell with Arjuna Genome and Samira’s Infinite Summer.

The album officially dropped May 20th on iTunes and Spotify, and CD and cassette via Chill Mega Chill Records and Sucks About Dinosaurs (S.A.D Records). Keep an eye out this dedicated musician’s future releases along with his latest music video and album!

By The Thousands Reveal New Music Video

Metal’s breakout group, By The Thousands, released a video for their single off of their debut full-length record, Connect

These progressive metal giants hail from Twin Cities, Minnesota, and their newest music video is for their track “Revenant." Check out the video below!

The strong vocal range of Hondo Torres-Pena is something that can not be ignored. He brings a role to the band the band that fits perfectly with the instrumentals. At times you could think that he is influenced by an artist like Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow) and then he throws you a curveball with vocal styles that mimic that of Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel) or Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual).

The rhythm section provides a heavy hitting back bone that isn't take shit from anyone, thanks to Adam Sullivan (bass) and Carlos Monserrate (drums) coming in and gettting us ready for the pit. Then the song breaks off into a sure-to-be “wall of death” favorite. Dustin Korth and John Riviere melt your face with more guitar strings than I could count (Hey, that’s not six!).

This track creates the perfect feeling a prog metal song without all the pomp and feathers. It gets right down into the grit and grind of Metal, without losing track of the immense talent these guys have as virtuosos.

The video, directed by Randy Edwards, provides a perfect visual of the world By The Thousands is trying to create. Displaying the immense talent of the entire group, without being too in your face about it. Edwards was able to capture the chaos and pandemonium of the song and put it on the screen. With this new video a June tour is set for the Mid-West of the U.S.

I am super pumped to see this band gain more attention. I hope that through touring and the magic of the internet these boys can find success!

SUMAC Announce West Coast Tour

In anticipation for their upcoming album, What One Becomes, sludge-kicking West Coast trio SUMAC are embarking on a tour along the US West Coast!

May 30 - Phoenix, AZ - Valley Bar
May 31 - Albuquerque, NM - Sister
Jun 1 - El Paso, TX - Bowie Feathers
Jun 3 - Austin, TX - The Sidewinder
Jun 4 - Dallas, TX - Club Dada

SUMAC was formed in 2014 by Aaron Turner (Isis, Mammifer, Old Man Gloom), Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists), and Brian Cook (Botch, Russian Circles, These Arms Are Snakes). This talented three-piece released their debut album The Deal back in 2015, establishing their meticulously crafted formula that would bring each of the members’ playing abilities together to explore the utter extremes of both seedy, claustrophobic heaviness and ambient serenity.

The band delves further into these murky depths on What One Becomes, structuring songs in a way that displays the inner and outer struggles of living with anxiety. As Turner puts it, “Much of it has to do with questioning fabricated structures of identity and what it means when those structures are destabilized by contact with the outside. That has been a unnerving process to undergo, but also fruitful in terms of discovering the path to individuation and realized connection with the self. Another facet of experience I’m working to convey is about living with the sustained presence of anxiety, and avoiding reliance on musical devices of cathartic release to provide escape from this condition.”

What One Becomes will be released on June 10th through Thrill Jockey Records. It was recorded with none other than the great Kurt Ballou of Converge, who manages to wring every last drop of intensity from each of the songs on the album. It is available now for pre-order through their website.

Be sure to keep up with the band’s latest happenings on Facebook and Twitter, and don’t miss them if they’re coming through your area. The band puts on a show that is one of a kind. Stay tuned!

The Stolen Announce I'm So Dead Tour With Mike Schiavo

Photography: Felipe Gomez & Kenny Lewis

The Stolen, a pop-rock band based out of New Jersey consisting of Dom Cuce, Rob Chiarappa, Kevin Smart, and Mike Chiarappa are setting out on the I’m So Dead tour with Mike Schiavo in support of their new record!

The tour starts July 3rd in Boston and will make it’s way down the east coast. The band's EP, I’m So Dead, premiered on TWIST magazine back in April. The 5 song EP has a heavy 90’s influence while still being modern pop and R&B, and features lead single “Can’t Get Enough”.

If you like bands like The 1975, The Maine, and The Summer Set then you will definitely like The Stolen, with hooks and lyrics sure to get stuck in your head! The band says they wanted to create a record that grooves musically, but also expresses the personal and drastic changes that they had gone through this past year.

This album is drenched in personality while being nostalgic and melancholy all at the same time. You can now stream the EP on TWIST MAGAZINE and check out the music video for “Can’t Get Enough” here!

Borderlands Announce Debut LP & Music Video

Straight from Lisbon, Portugal, progressive metalcore masterminds Borderlands unveil a brand-spanking-new music video for the song “Children of the Sun”. This is the third song to be premiered off Voice of the Voiceless, their upcoming debut full length, which is set for release on June 10th. Check out the insane video below.

The band- which consists of Rui Martins on vocals, Yuri José and Hugo Capelo on guitar, Cristóvão "Kiki" Monteiro on the drums, and Gonçalo Beco on bass- leaves listeners with extremely high expectations for the upcoming release. With the single, the quintet displays an ability to compose complex music that weaves gripping melodies into a tightly structured, pummeling assault. The song features a willingness to go wild tempo-wise while still sounding extremely on-beat, a la Massachusetts technical deathcore giants Within The Ruins, though they ultimately exhibit a feel that is very akin to the likes of metalcore compatriots Northlane, Erra, and even Oceans Ate Alaska.

Voice Of The Voiceless Track List:
1.    Continuum
2.    Children Of The Storm (feat. Nelson Robello from The Voynich Code)
3.    Release Yourself
4.    Lineage
5.    Limitless
6.    Essencia
7.    Voice Of The Voiceless
8.    The Curse (feat. Anger from Above The Hate)
9.    Children Of The Sun

With only a few singles and a three-and-a-half-year-old EP to their name, Borderlands is too good of a band not to expand its reach beyond Europe with this new album. Voice of the Voiceless sounds more polished and professional than their last efforts thanks to the mixing and mastering done by Nicolas Delestrade, who has worked with Betraying The Martyrs and Novelists in the past.

Says vocalist Rui Martins of the new album: “This album is definitely stepping up our game, we’ve put a lot of effort into this and hope that everyone enjoys it and loves it as much as we do.”

Borderlands are working hard and are well on their way to achieving greatness because of it.

With a set album release date on the horizon, now is the time to follow their social media and stay up-to-date with the latest happenings of this band. You can pre-order the new album, as well as download their old music, right here. Stay tuned!
