King Shelter Drop New Track "Preoccupy"

Orange County based rock outfit King Shelter have dropped a new track entitled “Preoccupy.”

The song is a reflection of America’s nightlife culture, with singer Taylor Hecocks saying, “What are we trying to gain? Why do we keep doing these things? Why are we intentionally hurting other individuals for a temporary preoccupation? But most importantly, how can we be better? Because we CAN do better, we just have to try.”

You can listen to "Preoccupy" below!

King Shelter describe themselves as “Salad Rock” taking influence from surf rock, alternative, grunge, and all the spaces in between. All these ingredients mixed together form King Shelter’s salad. The band also has a message that they want to bring to the world through their lyrics. “If we want things to be better, then we have to do it” said Hecocks, “Change happens by people doing things, by people disregarding classes and associations. I want people to see what is important. People are important, art is important, output is important, YOU ARE IMPORTANT.”

You can still catch King Shelter on their brief west coast "Preoccupy My Brain" tour. The dates are below.

Daniel Amedee Shares "Life"

New Orleans singer-songwriter Daniel Amedee shares "Life," the title track off his upcoming EP, Life, which is set to release August 16th via Record Office Records/Saguna Records.

Although New Orleans born and bred, Amedee found his musical footing in Cork, Ireland after relocating there at age 18 after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He greatly developed himself as a writer, performer and producer while touring across Ireland and England as the bassist in popular Cork band Remma (Attack Records).

Amedee has released 4 studio albums before settling down to write Life. His distinctive urban folk has been called "meditative with an edge." Amedee continues to mature as an artist with Life, delving into the concept that we each create our own individual realities, and are capable of moving past negativity.

With haunting vocals and a mesmerizing rhythm that has a lifeblood all it's own, "Life" is a enthralling first taste of the new EP!

To Be A King Releases Single

Virginia metalcore outfit To Be A King released their single "New Horizon" back in May, and the single is the second track to be released off of their upcoming EP via Immenence Records.

To Be A King has origins in 2014, and started out as a deathcore/horrorcore group that quickly rose up the ranks. The band released their debut EP entitled Fear Not, also in 2014, and it featured influences from deathcore and Metalcore, while also incorporating Symphonic Metal as well as a positive message.

The band then hit troubled waters through 2015 that saw a lineup change, as well as a new direction for their sound. The band’s new single, which will appear on their forthcoming EP, showed the band coming out with a more melodic hardcore sound, and a group of solidified musicians ready to pick up where they left off at the end of 2014!

Check out "New Horizon" below!

Vocalist Jonathon Butler had this to say about all of the news: “Best part of this for me is someone will finally hear something I'm a part of. I have been doing music for a long time and never really truly got anything published. Feels good to know someone is going to be listening to something I'm a part of.”

Kayo Dot Streams Album Early

Ever-changing and experimenting band Kayo Dot is about to release their newest full-length LP, Plastic House on Base of Sky.

Kayo Dot has never settled on a specific type of sound. Each and every one of their releases are radically different, ranging through genres such as chamber music, progressive black metal goth, jazz and avant-garde classical.

They are masters of experimentation and this new LP still holds true to that. In Plastic House on Base of Sky, 5 songs over 40 minutes explore the themes of futuristic noir with a vintage electronic sound, filled with rezzed-out synthesizers and ambiance tones. There is a cyberpunk tone to this record, filled with visions of decaying mechanic concepts and mysterious darkness hiding around every corner.

Which is great news because even though the album releases this Friday from The Flenser, it is currently available for early streaming over on Noisey!

Check out Kayo Dot over on Facebook for more updates and head over to The Flenser this Friday to purchase the album!

The Maytags Premiere New Video

Des Moines retro-soul band The Maytags premiered their "Marry Ya" music video on Culture Collide today. "Marry Ya" is the first single off their debut album Love Lines, out July 1st.

The music accompanies a subtle, black and white video that highlights The Maytags' organic sound. Love Lines is a testament to the band’s hard work on the road and smolders with the intensity of a broken relationship. "We worked our asses off on this," Dustin Smith says. "Me and Tim ... tried to draw a lot of inspiration from the Daptone crew, Stax, and Al Green." The Maytags tracked the whole album to 2 inch tape in less than 30 hours.

The album sees Smith achieving a bit of the latter band's gut-busting, almost-preternatural howling on cathartic opener "Pushing Up Rivers." A three-part "Suite for Green Eyes," written as a whole by Smith and Tim Sanders (sax), inhabits the aftermath of a breakup: bittersweet acceptance, tempestuous reflection, and the lustful confusion of running into an ex once it's all over.

Dustin Smith's lyrics often reference the cultural geography of his hometown Des Moines, Iowa.  If there can be a New South, then there can be a sound that's Midwest Nouveau.

1. Pushing Up Rivers

2. Business Trip

3. Marry Ya

4. Rita

Suite For Green Eyes

5. I - Abused

6. II - Love Lines

7. III - Street Clothes

8. Call Me

Dash|Ten Share Brand New Single

Dash|Ten premiered their brand new single “Our Time Now” as a featured song in the Vans Warped Tour “90 Days To Warped” coverage.

You can see the lyric video right now to hear the song, so check out “Our Time Now” on YouTube!

The band has said "'Our Time Now' comes at a time when our generation has a lot on their minds - the digital world and its initiatives can be all-consuming. This track is a call to stand together. We have the power to make our era in history right, just, and beautiful."

The band is fresh off of the release of their debut full-length, self-titled album which dropped on May 20th.

Dash|Ten was created to enlighten young crowds of music fans at concerts about the US Army.

Although this might sound very corporate and inauthentic, the band comes from a natural place when it comes to collaboration and songwriting, as frontwoman Corinne Campbell writes from a deeply emotional viewpoint. "People can feel stuck in life, and it takes a certain kind of energy to push through," Campbell said. "The album is made up from my feelings, both positive and negative. It was reflecting on where I would go and how long it might take me to get there."

Ecclesiast Announce Self-Titled EP & Release Debut Single

Photography: ©Eichelberger Photography 2016

Missouri metalcore quartet Ecclesiast has not only announced a forthcoming self-titled EP, but has paired this announcement with their debut lyric video of their biting new single “High Horse." The EP, coming out on June 24th through Sancrosanct Records, is available for pre-order via iTunes.

“High Horse” is a charged, streamlined ride through the Ecclesiast sound, featuring crushingly rough assaults of abrasive riffage paired with an interestingly anthemic chorus. Says vocalist Joseph Smith of the single: “In my eyes, I see the path that's laid before in my heart and I know what is wrong and right. High Horse. This quote means something personal that I went through and questioning my own decisions through how other people felt. This whole song basically is about being the person that God wants you to be and not what man wants you to be.”

Check it out below!

Smith, along with guitarist Tyler Cobillas and drummer Nick Magasano, are going in a more personal direction with their brand of Christian metalcore, which is refreshing in a genre that has by and large seen its glory days come and go.

They have been playing shows non-stop for a while now, and they have no plans on stopping, with shows for the 4th, 11th, and even July 17th with fellow metalcore acts It Lies Within and In Dying Arms, as part of their larger Fight The Parasite tour. Don’t miss out!

Be sure to keep up with the band on social media so you can see when they’ll be through your area. This group is killing it right now, so sleeping on them is not an option!

As always, stay tuned for more!
