New Jersey Rockers Trü Release New Single "Trouble"

New Jersey based rockers,  Trü have released a single entitled “Trouble” in anticipation of their debut, self titled release. The four track EP drops June 9th via Destroy All Monsters Records.

"Trouble" is a high energy melodic cut with a sound that could be described as a cross between Weezer and Angels and Airwaves. Instrumentally, the single alternates steadily between high drive and soft/pretty.

Vocally, the tone and style are consistently soft spoken throughout. It features a constant higher octave double above the lead vocal line that adds an airy, pretty quality to the overall vibe of the song that also makes the lyrics pop a little more.

The band describes their sound as “Sad music for sad people,” but nonetheless I think it feels quite good to listen to. There is a swinging flow to the track that you can comfortably sway or bob your head to.

Listen to “Trouble” here, and stay tuned for the June 9th release of Trü.

Tomemitsu Release New Music Video

L.A. Dream Pop artist Tomemitsu has released a video for his song “Can’t Stop Thinking," and the song is the opening track of his December 2015 release, Loaf Eye.

“Can’t Stop Thinking” is the second single from Loaf Eye, with “Vacation” receiving its own video in May. Loaf Eye is the follow up to Tomemitsu’s 2013 EP, entitled M O D E S. The cassette release was sold out rather quickly. Two tracks from M O D E S, “Runaway” and “In Dreams,” ended up being featured on the HBO series “High Maintenance.”

Tomemitsu worked for two years on Loaf Eye and collaborated with many other musicians including Colleen Green, Devin Ratliff and Erik Felix (So Many Wizards), Christina Gaillard and James Roehl (Crown Plaza) who all had a hand in the album.

“Can’t Stop Thinking” is a soothing number, aided by Tomemitsu’s smooth baritone, acoustic guitar, and some dreamy synths. The video itself is fun and bright, but has a certain melancholy to it. Check it out below.

I encourage you to check it out for yourself and give praise to director ETA.

Ecclesiast Announce Self-Titled EP & Release Debut Single

Photography: ©Eichelberger Photography 2016

Missouri metalcore quartet Ecclesiast has not only announced a forthcoming self-titled EP, but has paired this announcement with their debut lyric video of their biting new single “High Horse." The EP, coming out on June 24th through Sancrosanct Records, is available for pre-order via iTunes.

“High Horse” is a charged, streamlined ride through the Ecclesiast sound, featuring crushingly rough assaults of abrasive riffage paired with an interestingly anthemic chorus. Says vocalist Joseph Smith of the single: “In my eyes, I see the path that's laid before in my heart and I know what is wrong and right. High Horse. This quote means something personal that I went through and questioning my own decisions through how other people felt. This whole song basically is about being the person that God wants you to be and not what man wants you to be.”

Check it out below!

Smith, along with guitarist Tyler Cobillas and drummer Nick Magasano, are going in a more personal direction with their brand of Christian metalcore, which is refreshing in a genre that has by and large seen its glory days come and go.

They have been playing shows non-stop for a while now, and they have no plans on stopping, with shows for the 4th, 11th, and even July 17th with fellow metalcore acts It Lies Within and In Dying Arms, as part of their larger Fight The Parasite tour. Don’t miss out!

Be sure to keep up with the band on social media so you can see when they’ll be through your area. This group is killing it right now, so sleeping on them is not an option!

As always, stay tuned for more!

David Trull Shares Brand New Single

Indie- folk singer/songwriter, David Trull, shared the second single off of his album, Coin Toss!

The album will be available on June 3rd, and Trull channels inspiration from The Allman Brothers, The Derek Trucks Band, and other Blues icons to create his own signature, existential sound.

Dave began his music career as a regular live feature while still in high school at St. Louis’ Roadhouse. In college, Trull really discovered and honed in on his sound and songwriting skills. He started a band called Bourbon & Bitters, while he was able to save up enough money through gifts and gigs to record his solo EP, Sowing Season.

Although the EP had much success, Trull still found himself stuck and unhappy in an office job. He decided to make a rash decision and go on a 500 mile pilgrimage across France and Spain called the Camino De Santiago. During this journey he was going to make the decision to abandon music all together or pursue his dreams. He chose the latter and the entire album, Coin Toss, was composed during his 500 mile journey, and “Dark Magic” is the first song off the album inspired by his trip.

Check out the stream below!

Trull realizes that the sweet memories of childhood are harder to hold on to as life goes on, and explores the themes of loss in his soulful record, which is the epitome of blues. “Dark Magic” is the first glimpse at a record about loss, heartache, and finding the good in every bad situation in life and learning to laugh about it.

Tomemitsu Shares Video & Album

unnamed (3).jpg

Recently, L.A. Record premiered the video, directed by ETA, for “Vacation,” off of Tomemitsu’s upcoming record, Loaf Eye.

Tomemitsu says, “‘Vacation’ is a song that I wrote all the lyrics to while on vacation in Mexico in 2014. I like it because it brings me back to the beach, reading in the shade while the waves roll in. The feelings of total relaxation and peacefulness come back to me when I hear and play this one.”

Check out the video below!

Tomemitsu, a Los Angeles-based lo-fi and dream pop musician, has spent over two years working on his sophomore record, Loaf Eye, following 2013 debut, m_o_d_e_s. After the cassette sold out, his audience quickly grew to a more worldwide following, especially after HBO series, “High Maintenance” credited Tomemitsu’s songs, “In Dreams” and “Runaway.”

Loaf Eye is the product of two years work, patience, introspection, and collaboration. There are appearances by Colleen Green, Devin Ratliff and Erik Felix of So Many Wizards, as well as Christina Gaillard and James Roehl of Crown Plaza. And Earlier this week, Tomemitsu played an album release show at The Smell with Arjuna Genome and Samira’s Infinite Summer.

Canis Majoris is Esquela's 3rd studio album! Esquela is a five-piece country/Americana folk outfit in the style of classic 70's rock and rollers. John “Chico” Finn, the bassist and frontman, has taken pride in being able to write new spins on old classics.

Bür Gür Share New Music Video

Bür Gür, Los Angeles tropical noise/pop duo, just released a new music video!

The two-some consists of Makan Negahban and Corbin Clarke, and the guys just released their sophomore album, Have You Lost Your Faith In God? on April 1, 2016 through New Los Angeles, an Alpha Pup Records.

Written and produced by Clarke and Negahban, the album supports a fun, upbeat sound built on a foundation of poly rhythms, dreamy vocals, and intricate acoustic guitar lines. The music is matched with darker, contemplative lyrical content, a stark contrast to their bright, tropical sound.

The music video flows through a stream of psychedelic and glitchy visuals, jumping from a variety of clips and shots from the band, to turbulent colors. Tune Collective writes, "The mind bending imagery alongside honeyed, dulcet tones brings a peace and calm that translates to a cross-cultural sound with mass appeal."

You can check out "Shek," below!

In recent weeks, Bür Gür has played Los Angeles’ staple underground show Low End Theory, opened for an Animal Collective DJ set, showcased at SXSW, and premiered music videos on The Mat Mag and IHEARTCOMIX. On May 10th, Bür Gür is performing live at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles alongside DJ sets by Kenny Segal (Team Supreme), Raskal (Noise Revolt), and Nina Tarr.

Have You Lost Your Faith In God? is available via Apple Music and Spotify and for download upon request.

Kayo Dot Share New Track

Kayo Dot has premiered the first single off of its upcoming album, Plastic House on Base of Sky on TinyMixTapes

Listen to "Magnetism" here, or below!

Plastic House on Base of Sky embraces the electronic allusions found on 2014's Coffins on Io LP. The LP incorporates a variety of analog synthesisers, creating an explosive work that fuses with the experimentalism of Conrad Schnitzler or Morton Subotnick. The group describes Plastic House on Base of Sky as an exploration of our mechanical post-human future-present.
At the core of Kayo Dot is a mood that lies on the crossroads of darkness and mystery. In film, music emoting mystery sounds almost nocturnal, relating our brains to the unknownness hiding in the absence of light. This intersection is the essence of Kayo Dot.

The man behind Kayo Dot’s curtain of sound, Toby Driver, has been fiercely productive and experimental over the last year. So much so, that the amount of risks taken with Kayo Dot’s music can outnumber what most traditional artists will attempt for an entire album. There are very eclectic collaborators on this record as well. Driver, who recorded Plastic House on Base of Sky collaborates with lyricist Jason Byron. Byron, a lifelong student of the occult, gives the listener a feast of words as elusive and satisfying as the labyrinths of sound they travel through. Whether by means of menacing guitars, ethereal woodwinds, or aggressive electronics, there's always a sense that a new door might open, that anything can be found around the corner.
Plastic House on Base of Sky will be available June 24, 2016 from The Flenser.  Pre-order the album here

Check out the tracklist below!
