'Float Around' Out Now Via Coldfront In Anticipation Of New Album

Canadian pop-punk band Coldfront recently shared their brand new single "Float Around"today via idobi Radio.

"Float Around" is the title track from the band's forthcoming album, which will be released on October 6th. It marks the band's debut full length on Equal Vision Records, and can be pre-ordered now.

Check out "Float Around" below!

On the new track, guitarist Chris Casarin shares: "' Float Around' is one of my favourite tracks on our new record and I think it really captures the new direction Coldfront is heading in. This song started as something completely different - it was a fast and chaotic song at first but with a little studio magic we made it into something special. 'Float Around' is a song about a shitty break up and and trying to hold on to something that will never work."

New Jersey Rockers Trü Release New Single "Trouble"

New Jersey based rockers,  Trü have released a single entitled “Trouble” in anticipation of their debut, self titled release. The four track EP drops June 9th via Destroy All Monsters Records.

"Trouble" is a high energy melodic cut with a sound that could be described as a cross between Weezer and Angels and Airwaves. Instrumentally, the single alternates steadily between high drive and soft/pretty.

Vocally, the tone and style are consistently soft spoken throughout. It features a constant higher octave double above the lead vocal line that adds an airy, pretty quality to the overall vibe of the song that also makes the lyrics pop a little more.

The band describes their sound as “Sad music for sad people,” but nonetheless I think it feels quite good to listen to. There is a swinging flow to the track that you can comfortably sway or bob your head to.

Listen to “Trouble” here, and stay tuned for the June 9th release of Trü.

New Album Out Now From New Found Glory

New Found Glory, pop-punk legends, have now released their 9th official album, Makes Me Sick. Nine albums is pretty impressive, and this one is plenty up to par with the first eight. New Found Glory’s sound still packs a punch, and Makes Me Sick proves that the band is still capable of delivering amazing music even after 20 years. The new album takes risks, introducing new sound and style from New Found Glory.

Going where no NFG record has gone before.” If that isn’t enough to get you to buy it, preview a few of the tracks on iTunes or Spotify and see for yourself just how this album differs from the previous New Found Glory records.

The band has partnered with Urban Outfitters, everybody’s favorite overpriced hipster heaven, to release a limited edition vinyl of Makes Me Sick. Not only that, but New Found Glory is currently on a massive anniversary tour for 20 Years of Pop Punk, with venues already sold out everywhere. The Eiffels Release New Album

LA trio The Eiffels released their sophomore EP You Got Me this week and they are streaming it with Idobi Radio. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ethan Kaufmann (Wild Party) and Will Briere (The Killers, Walk The Moon, Neon Trees), the 3 song EP reveals a band diving deep into their 80s influences. In the album are shades of Bruce Springsteen and Phil Collins, although fans of contemporary music might here influence from The Bleachers or The Wombats.

"We're really excited to finally release the new EP," says vocalist Sean Ulbs. "We recorded these tracks after an ambitious U.S. tour, and the ways we grew musically, and as a band, come through in these songs."

Check out their video for "Coming to See You."

2016 was filled with all kinds of success for this group, especially after seeing their music appear in television shows (MTV’s Are You The One, The Only Way Is Essex), magazines (Relix Magazine), and were 2016 Unsigned Only - Alternative Artist winners (judges included The Killers and The Struts). They did this all while becoming regulars at some of LA’s favorite music venues.

Civil Youth Announce Third Full Length

Philadelphia's own rising indie/rock band, Civil Youth, just announced their upcoming third full length, Conversations set for release on May 19th, 2017!

The band shared the announcement with dreamlike video teaser as well as the announcement of an official album release show at Theater of the Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA, on May 20th, 2017.

Conversations is a genre-bending album self-produced by the band in their home studio, filled with rock, rap, and electronic elements similar to groups like Twenty One Pilots.

Lead singer Michael Kepko had this to say on the announcement, "Lying in the back of our van one tour, the windows start to fog. Everyone is asleep besides me [Mike]. I sit up to realize there has been a word written in the fog against the windows. I squint, but everything is a blur. The next thing I realize there's demons surrounding the van. Face to face we stare at each other. "What do you want?" Before an answer comes, the faces start to morph and I'm staring at myself. I scream to leave, but I only hear laughter. The word written in the fog is "Conversations." The demons vanish and I'm sitting up, heavily breathing. I try to go back to sleep, but I'm lying awake as the sound of footsteps circle my ears. That night we begin writing a new record. An era that describes conversations we've had with our past & future selves. People we wish we were, or people we want to be. This highly-anticipated, 3rd full length album is an intense and driven fusion of rock, rap, & electronic music encompassed into one unique album. Recorded with the energy of the house we grew up in, the spirit of our past selves lives within the music. We proudly present, Conversations."

SUM 41'S New Album Makes Billboard Charts

"I don't wanna waste my time...become another casualty of society..." Ah. The lyrics you used to shout a lifetime ago; the years before you began working 15 hours a week at your unpaid internship. "I will never fall in line...become another victim of your conformity..." Your iconoclastic edge lost on you while you wait in line attempting to cop brand new Yeezys.

Everything changes.

All nostalgia aside, your fav Canadian punk rockers, Sum 41, are back with their sixth studio album, 13 Voices, which dropped earlier this month. The release is a bit more special in that lead singer, Derryck Whibley, nearly died before its inception - the album is about his recovery from an alcohol-induced coma that came close to killing him.

But on a lighter note, not only is this album the group's first with former guitarist Dave Baksh back in the cut (the guy who did that guitar solo in the pool for the iconic "In Too Deep" music video), but it also peaked at #9 on Billboard's Top Album Chart during release week. With all these fun facts in mind, check out Sum's video for their single "War" below:

13 Voices is being distributed through Hopeless Records and can be purchased here. Otherwise, you can (hopefully) catch Sum 41 on their "Don't Call It a Sum-Back" tour below:

The Soul Shakers Release Debut Music Video

Nashville rockers The Soul Shakers have recently premiered a music video for their debut single “Here to Have a Good Time.”

The Soul Shakers features Elias Paul Reidy (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) and Brett Hellings. The duo formed with the mission of bringing back old fashioned kick ass rock and roll. “Here to Have a Good Time” succeeds in this endeavor, and makes you think of bands like Aerosmith and Guns n Roses. Who knew simple straightforward rock could be such a breath of fresh air? Even the video lines up with this idea, using the old standard of crazy parties, beautiful girls, and unlikely performances.

"Here to Have a Good Time” is our definition of straight up rock n’ roll and a short story of where we come from and how we met. We hope this song makes you want to get up, shake what you got, grab a shot and have a good time.” – The Soul Shakers

The duo is set to release a full length LP soon, recorded at Soundmine studios in Philadelphia. The record was produced by Dan Malsch ((Motionless in White, Tantric, Framing Hanley). The album also features Chuck Treece of Bad Brains on drums.

Keep your eyes on The Hook for more news about The Soul Shakers' upcoming album!

Sunndrug Release New Song, "Shining"

Sunndrug, an indie quintet out of Virginia Beach, has just unveiled a new song entitled “Shining”. The track is the latest single from their upcoming debut album, Exit Wounds.

When Sunndrug began, it was as an outlet for vocalist Jimmy Reeves. He was navigating a relationship of 10 years that was falling apart, an inspiration for lyrics if there ever was one. The album is a “narrative of a man coming apart at the seams as he attempts to get a fix on a reality that is nothing more than sand in his fist”.

Reeves had this to say about the new track, "'Shining' was the last song we wrote before starting to record the album. Its working title was 'Bonham Song' because the sonic inspiration for it came from the way Led Zeppelin played the blues. It’s a jilted love story based around the setting of a well curated online life being a mirage for a person whose reality doesn’t live up to it. The end of the song is a moment on the record I’m particularly proud of because I think the music evokes something even without lyrics."

Exit Wounds is out this fall from Mind Over Matter Records.

Street Sects Drops New Single

Austin industrial/punk duo Street Sects have just put out their second single from their forthcoming album End Position.

“Featherweight Hate” is an intense track from an intense group. Street Sects foregoes traditional instrumentation for harsh electronics backing the haunting voice of vocalist Leo Ashline. They harness the ever finicky power of dissonance to great effect, and it does a good job of highlighting the anger in their music.

Listen to the track below!

The band spoke about the themes of the song, "Thematically, 'Featherweight Hate' picks up where the the preceding song on the album ('In Defense of Resentment') leaves off. The last line of that song is 'I don’t believe in redemption', and that is the basis for the character’s perspective in 'Featherweight Hate'. I believe that people can change, can better themselves, but good deeds don’t negate bad deeds, and a person’s character cannot be ‘redeemed'. The concept of redemption is a sort of spiritual propaganda, just as the concept of rehabilitation is a political fiction used to prop up a corrupt and ineffective criminal justice system. Our place in the world is not determined by an imaginary scale that weighs our mistakes against our virtues. In life we either sink or we swim, and more often than not it’s beyond our control.”

You can catch Street Sects live September 3rd at Paper Tiger in San Antonio, or at Union in L.A. on October 14th. Their Debut Album End Position is due out September 16.

Death Comes Home Releases Music Video

Puerto Rico’s Death Comes Home released their music video for “The Sleepwalker” off upcoming album, Reinvent. The video was directed by guitarist Carlos Rosa and filmed at Music Dorks in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

The title of the album, Reinvent, is very appropriate considering the band's current state. Coming off a three year hiatus, due to departure of vocalist Chance Mize, the band brings on replacement, Emanuel Calderon and the band hope to take their music in new lyrical and instrumental directions.

As far as I can tell, they have.

Carlos Rosa and the band put melody first in this single, blending clean vocals and screaming that's sure to turn you inside out. Armed with a Punk mind and a Metal fist, "Sleepwalker" strikes you with a steady rhythm as hard as a train.

Check out the video below!

The track is so restless and phenomenal.

I've always liked songs that allow the bass and guitar players space to gallop. These guys won't have a problem gaining followers in the Metalcore community.

Death Comes Home is ready to bring their new direction into the world and I cannot wait. I hope that with this new album comes tour dates with other Metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage.

Please check these guys out!

Stages Streams New EP In Full

Imminence Records has been supporting some seriously talented up-and-coming bands as of late, including Pennsylvania’s own Perdition and French hardcore hellraisers No Jogging For Today, both of whom were recently covered by The Hook. One of its most recent catches, the Florida metalcore quintet Stages, is letting fans listen to their label debut EP entitled New War.

It can be enjoyed in its entirety right here

On this bite-sized EP, which came out on June 24th, Stages makes an effort to imbue their static brand of metalcore with experimentation, including using electronica to create atmosphere and melody and allowing the guitars to focus on pulverizing the listener with varied, sometimes hardcore-esque riffage.

According to vocalist Aaron Berkshire, the band is very happy to see the EP finally released, as the band waited a long time to release the material in order to ensure a polished final product. It shows throughout, from the tight structure of the songs to the superior production quality.

Stages also took the opportunity to release a list of tour dates that will bring them around their home state, with a stop in Georgia. The band will be supported by A Dying Breed.

Check out dates below!

This band will be busy and busting their asses to bring us prime progressive metalcore tunes, so keep an eye out for new activity. Pick the new EP up at iTunes and MerchNow, and feel free to follow them on their various social media accounts. As always, stay down-tuned for some metalcore mayhem!

Kayo Dot Streams Album Early

Ever-changing and experimenting band Kayo Dot is about to release their newest full-length LP, Plastic House on Base of Sky.

Kayo Dot has never settled on a specific type of sound. Each and every one of their releases are radically different, ranging through genres such as chamber music, progressive black metal goth, jazz and avant-garde classical.

They are masters of experimentation and this new LP still holds true to that. In Plastic House on Base of Sky, 5 songs over 40 minutes explore the themes of futuristic noir with a vintage electronic sound, filled with rezzed-out synthesizers and ambiance tones. There is a cyberpunk tone to this record, filled with visions of decaying mechanic concepts and mysterious darkness hiding around every corner.

Which is great news because even though the album releases this Friday from The Flenser, it is currently available for early streaming over on Noisey!

Check out Kayo Dot over on Facebook for more updates and head over to The Flenser this Friday to purchase the album!

Imisu Releases New Album

Imisu announces the independent release of new EP, Historic Self on June 24th.

Check it out here.

Imisu is a solo project of producer, Paul Marchesani, a multi-instrumentalist that exudes creativity. Based out of Pennsylvania, Marchesani is also co-frontman of Larry Nodder, as well as co-founder of record label, Forest Kids. His unique concept through Imisu is to evoke emotions of longing.

Historic Self is a sophomore release for Imisu. The purpose of the abstract mini album is to call upon the listener’s past and remind them of who they once were. Following debut It’s Always Been You, Marchesani says, “(It’s Always Been You) was spontaneous and recorded and released in one night. I wanted Historic Self to have depth. The goal was to explore emotion through dense instrumentation and my more experimental ideas.” He even samples a Terence Mckenna lecture explaining how magic mushrooms can be the key to our world’s salvation!

Historic Self Tracklist:

  1. The Plan
  2. A Weekend Alone Somewhere With You
  3. What Now
  4. Seeing Ghosts Everywhere

The album explores a sea of sound, blending elements of Lo-fi and Electronic genres into the perfect soundtrack for a rainy Sunday night. Each of the four tracks build from a simple idea and expand gradually until you’re hit with an epiphany as intense as a dose of mushrooms. Consisting of ambient room noise, glitchy clicks and pops, fluttery acoustic guitar loops, and reversed audio samples, the serene textures of Historic Self will mend those who dwell on the past.
