Audience Killers Share New Album & Debut Video

Synth-pop band Audience Killers released their debut full length album Floating Islands through their independent label Trii House, while the Latvian group also premiered their music video for “Sounds Like You” from Nothing But Hope And Passion on May 19!

Audience Killers debut EP Footprints And Heart was put out in July 2012. Since then, The band has performed across Europe at The Great Escape, Reeperbahn Music Festival, and Tallinn Music Week. They also released a standalone single, “Two Bare Feet.”

Audience Killers produce a fluid blend of synthpop and electropop, reminiscent of Mew and Passion Pit. Their record Floating Islands delivers warm, spacey synths, dreamy guitar lines, and ethereal vocals. It’s an attempt to prove a single person can affect numerous lives in a positive way.

The “Sounds Like You” music video follows young girl traveling across the Newfoundland countryside, slinging a lost star over her shoulder. When the story reaches it’s climax, the girl releases the star into the sky. Director Seb McKinnon explains, “To me, the video is about rekindling lost hope. A fall, and a rebirth. Sometimes, we have to let go of something that brought beauty into our lives. To move on can be difficult, but a necessary act for new hope to bloom.”

The Stolen, a pop-rock band based out of New Jersey consisting of Dom Cuce, Rob Chiarappa, Kevin Smart, and Mike Chiarappa are setting out on the I’m So Dead tour with Mike Schiavo in support of their new record!

The tour starts July 3rd in Boston and will make it’s way down the east coast. The band's EP, I’m So Dead, premiered on TWIST magazine back in April. The 5 song EP has a heavy 90’s influence while still being modern pop and R&B, and features lead single “Can’t Get Enough”.

If you like bands like The 1975, The Maine, and The Summer Set then you will definitely like The Stolen, with hooks and lyrics sure to get stuck in your head! The band says they wanted to create a record that grooves musically, but also expresses the personal and drastic changes that they had gone through this past year.

This album is drenched in personality while being nostalgic and melancholy all at the same time. You can now stream the EP on TWIST MAGAZINE and check out the music video for “Can’t Get Enough” here!

One Gone Thus Premiers New Video

LA two-piece One Gone Thus, who play an exhilarating brand of experimental electronic post-hardcore, have put out a new lyric video for their song “Self & Soul!"

A self-proclaimed “studio project,” consisting of guitarist/vocalist/programmer Ryan Sabouhi and guitarist/vocalist Greg Eagle, the band aims through their lyrics to address the message that “all things are impermanent and subject to change”.

Check it out below!

The video comes at the heels of the announcement of their upcoming EP, aptly titled Impermanence, which comes out on June 3rd. It will be available for free on their Bandcamp, which currently holds a 75-cent single called “Porcelain."

Of the EP, Eagle exclaims that it is “comprehensively DIY and we are both extremely proud with what we have made and accomplished thus far. We care about the message that we send because it carries with it an immense weight and responsibility and though it’s obviously meaningful to us, we hope that others will be able to find meaning in it as well.”

Here at The Hook, we're looking forward to hearing what One Gone Thus has in store! The band hopes to bridge a gap between commercial accessibility and creative experimentation as they move forward. The band will strive to create a new and meaningful experience for their listeners, as they value their ability to impress unique ideas upon their captive audience, and they're just getting warmed up.

Check out the band’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up with the latest One Gone Thus news and follow them on Soundcloud to hear more of their music as it comes out. Stay tuned!

Death Koolaid Releases New Music Video

London, UK hardcore punk-rockers, Death Koolaid ,have released a crazy new music video for their song “Emmeline."

From their upcoming album, Death Koolaid Vol. 2, which hits stores in July, the song is gratingly groovy and refreshingly weird. The trippy video was directed by Brendan Cleaves, filmed by Laura Bellingham, edited by Greg Hays, and colored by Oliver Gill.

Watch the band tear it up below!

The band says this of the video: “We wanted to do a performance video but hate performance videos. We wanted to stay away from that classic good looking, fancy lighting, slick style performance video we so often see too much of. So we came up with this idea. We wanted it to create motion sickness, headaches, and dizziness. We also did it on a tiny budget, with just the director, the DP and us all crammed into a tiny room. Not only that, we thought to make it more intense for us, we put a time limit on the shoots duration to three hours. Get in, go mental and get out. Pretty much our mentality squeezed into the whole experience and visuals. We use a homemade camera rig for many of shots as nothing out there could achieve the look we wanted. The song is also bonkers, so it all came together quite well.”

The entirety of their first EP, Death Koolaid Vol. 1, is currently available for free download until the release of the new one! You can grab the EP here. Released in 2014, the EP met success and features their song “The Second Rule”, whose music video won a UK MVA in October of that year.

The band, which consists of vocalist Siren Psycho, guitarist/bassist Roy Darkwater, “The Crowman” on guitar, and “The Crossman” on drums, formed in 2013 to play their brand of Rob Zombie-esque heaviness. They’ve been touring all over the UK since the release of their EP, and they were even the first punk band to grace the stage of a Brighton and Hove Pride festival. They even won a UK Emergenza Battle of the Bands in 2015 and took the title of Best New Band at the Pure Rawk awards. They’ve been owning the scene since their inception, with no plans to stop any time soon.

Follow these oddballs on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and at their very own website to keep up with all their glitzy, ghoulish greatness, and be sure to check out their Soundcloud and YouTube to hear more monstrous mayhem.

Muscle & Marrow Release New Single

Alternative, experimental metal duo Muscle & Marrow have released “Bereft Body”, the third single from their upcoming LP, Love!

The album is due for release on May 27th. Muscle & Marrow's first LP, The Human Cry, received critical acclaim upon its release in 2014. This follow-up has been highly anticipated.

This single is a somber, beautiful dirge that continues to showcase the band's experimental tendencies, feeling less like a traditional metal outing and making the sound more open, haunting, and surreal. Lead singer Kira Clark's echo-y and dream-like vocals make a strong impression on this track as the varied instrumentation from Keith McGraw builds to a climactic finish.

The song furthers the themes of the upcoming album, love, decay, death, and a topic that is close to Clark's sensibilities, the idea of femininity. “It’s cathartic and alluring for me,” she says, “to delve into feminine madness because, of course, that character is inside me somewhere all of the time and to give her permission to surface in my art is powerful.”

“Bereft Body” is available to listen to here! You can pre-order Love here, also!

Love Tracklist:
1. My Fear
2. Black Hole
3. Womb

All Your Sisters Announce Album

Photography: Olivia Lee

Photography: Olivia Lee

Weird, surprising, and undefinable darkwave band, All Your Sisters, have announced a new LP!

Uncomfortable Skin is set for release on June 8th, and All Your Sisters recently released a single from the album! "Open Wide" is an interesting track for the band to release - steeped in nostalgia, but entirely contemporary and it seamlessly shifts between genres, yielding a sound that is both brooding and catchy.

Check out the Soundcloud stream below!

Jordan Morrison, the frontman of All Your Sisters, had a major influence on the dark lyrical content. He says this about this experiences: "I was 19, living in Las Vegas and driving an ambulance. I became a full blown paramedic by the time I was 23. I eventually moved to Reno and worked for a few more years. The job started to wear on me. I saw the worst things you can imagine. People in their worst, most vulnerable states. There was definitely no sign of a god anywhere. I can't un-see a lot of what I saw. These images might be in my head forever. So the feelings from it kind of sneak their way into the lyrics”.

You can check out the track-list for Uncomfortable Skin below!

Track List:
1.  Nothing Is Sacred
2.  Open Wide
3.  Black God
4.  Heater
5.  Loss
6.  Remains
7.  Filled With Waste
8.  Shame
9.  No Hope
10.  Reconcile

Backwordz Shares Music Video

Burgeoning like wild flowers into the music scene, Huston, Texas bred hardcore metal/hip-hop clan, BackWordz releases their “Statism” music video.

Directed by Albert Gonzalez and features a guest performance from Craig Mabbit of Escape the Fate. You can check it out below:

Delivering a sound never herd before, the group uses their music, not for the enjoyment of hyper-poetic language or for the sake of sake of congratulating themselves on their ability to deliver chilling verses or puppeteer the limbs of a crowd.  They focus on moving people in other ways, swaying their perceptions instead of their bodies, introducing them anti-state and liberal ideologies. In his verse in “Statism,” lead vocalist and rapper, Eric July stated:

I’m on a life mission to abolish all the government

It’s dumb and I’m beyond pissed
So we’re going to cut to the chase and get rid of metaphorical nonsense
    None of that eloquent bogusness
I want you to know what it is sucka kid, y’all people keep voting in

They rob, kill, and steal by the day
I’d be a buffoon to trust the state
You’re a tool and fool. Just keep taking the bait
Making mistake, after mistake, after mistake
Believe me, this ain’t the typical “Oh the government’s corrupt.”
    Bro, that’s too easy
You gotta take responsibility because you willingly
Give power to the state, when it’s the state that is your enemy

These verses epitomizes the groups mission: advocate for the examination of the power dynamics between the government and the people. July stated:
"Alex and I are hardcore libertarians and we want to spread the message of liberty within     our music, as well as speak on the dangers of The State. It seems that so many people     our age have been brainwashed into supporting government expansion; today's music     artists in general tend advocate for big government. We are that dissenting voice and     we wanted to make it known with 'Statism.' The music video consists of us wearing the     colors that represent different types of anarchy. The black and yellow being the most     prominent, because we are for the most part anarcho-capitalists.

We want the state to be abolished, and we want you to know why. I think the coolest thing about us, is that Alex and I actually know what we're are talking when it comes to economics and politics. This makes our lyrics far more in depth and thought provoking. We don't just talk about it during election time, or high-side on the internet to sound as if we are a lot smarter than what we are..We actually live this."

BackWordz released their first track just a year ago in 2015, but they’re more than equipped to excel in the music industry. The group assembled under the conditions of hard work and dedication, composed of experienced musicians who have performed in several tours.  “Statism” is the second song on their album, Veracity, which will debut this summer.

Summer Scouts Share New Music Video

PA-Based power-pop group Summer Scouts have released a music video for their new singl, "Vessels."

This video is in the build-up to the release of their next album, Furthest Reach, due out May 20th. This debut album follows the releases of 2014's The Distance and 2015's Deep Breath, which have both received critical acclaim.

Summer Scouts describe "Vessels" as a song about dealing with the loss of a parent:
"Family life and norms change dramatically after the death of a parent. The home itself takes a drastic shift in its overall aura, a shift that slowly continues for years after the death, forever losing its original feeling. While the family’s personalities experience alterations as well, the house itself holds the significant, glaring symbolism of this dark familial change. “Vessel” visits this feeling that no one in the family wants to face and confronts it in an emotional conversation between the singer (an affected family member) and the house."

Summer Scouts will hit the road for a tour to promote and to preview the songs from Furthest Reach, starting on April 23rd in Woodbridge, CT at the Amity Teen Center. The tour heads around the Northeast, so check their website for details and updates - or you can check out our previous article with all of their tour dates here!

You can follow Summer Scouts on social media and you can check out the video for "Vessels" above!

Roanoke Release Single To Support The Flint Water Crisis

With the help of Cadence & Cause, Roanoke - the emerging Folk/Americana band from Nashville, Tennessee, prove to be activists by releasing their new single, “The Light” in order to raise money and awareness for the Flint, Michigan water crisis. Compelled by her own empathy, lead vocalist and Michigan native, Taylor Dupis teams with other artists to donate to the Flint Child Health & Development Fund. All donations made will be used to aid, develop, and help provide crisis response, childhood education and student support services, pediatric medical home access, adolescent behavioral health services, access to and education about nutritious foods, safe and healthy home environments, and research for the children who live in Flint.

Dupis states, "Water is something that many people take for granted. It is an essential part of every living beings life, and for most people in America, healthy drinking water has always been extremely accessible. What if one day you woke up and you did not have healthy drinking water to keep you going? What if, as a mother you did not have earth's most essential mineral to give to your children? Most people do not have these fears, but for the people of Flint, these fears are all too real. Growing up just an hour from Flint, this tragedy holds a special place in my heart. Something so preventable has caused so much pain to the Flint Community, and we are happy to do anything to help the cause. We hope that our donation will bring "The Light" to the people of Flint and anyone effected by this tragedy."

The group began as a duo, consisting of a lead singer and guitarist, Joey Beesly and Taylor Dupist , and then grew to a five man band with the joining of drums, banjo, and harmonica player Kyle Breese, mandolinist and vocalist, Zach Nowak, and violinist, Jo Cleary, coming together to create a signature, enchanting sound. The narrative-drive, culturally influenced, non-fictitious nature of their tunes is most evident in their song, “Heavy Goodbyes,” a song about heartbreak, in “Jordan” which discusses the complications of having faith, or in their debut album, Roanoke which is expected to be released by May 5, 2015.

Be a part of the Flint Water Crisis solution by downloading “The Light” on CadenceandCause.com.

Creepers Release New Song

Creepers, the San Francisco Bay psychedelic post-rock band formed in 2010 by Shiv Mehra and Daniel Tracy of Deafheaven, just released a new single today! Not only did the the band, which includes guitarist Chris Natividad (Golden Drugs, Useless Eaters), bassist Andrew Oswald (Recorded Fell Voices, Ash Borer, Black Spiritual, +more), and synth/electronics expert Ross Peacock (Mwahaha, Clipd Beaks), release the superb single, but they also announced tour dates to boot!

The tour will bring them to venues around the northern East Coast, and they will be playing dates with the bands No Joy, Sad Actors, and PC Worship, to name a few. You can see the full list of dates below:

Creepers tour dates:
4.30 Brooklyn, NY @ Saint Vitus w/ No Joy, Cool Angels
5.1 Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie w/ No Joy, Sad Actor
5.2 Asbury Park, NJ @ The Saint w/ tba
5.3 Allentown, PA @ The Alternative Gallery w/ Planning for Burial
5.4 Pawtucket, RI @ Machines with Magnets w/ Twin Foxes, Snowplows
5.5 Jamaica Plain, MA @ Deep Thoughts w/ New England Patriots, PC Worship
5.6 Brooklyn, NY @ Silent Bar

As we said earlier, these tour dates were released along with a song, entitled “Lost”. It stands alone, having not been released with their debut LP Lush, but it does so effectively. Clocking in at just over seven minutes, the single adventurously leads the listener through different realms of existence, breaking down and building back up with increased vigor at each turn, returning to the opening passage at the half-way point just before climbing into a glorious, phase-laden jam-out just as the time passes five minutes.

Given that the band’s Facebook page labels their genre as “drug visions”, the structure of the song makes sense: the way in which the it goes through waves of heightening intensity and then comes back down, eventually ending as gently as it begins, is similar to how people experience psychedelics. This feeling is aided by the enigmatic nature of the chords they make use of, as well as the reverb-laden vocals, which float through the song as though to sooth the listener on their journey through the song.

Will this single precede another official release? That remains to be seen. Their LP, Lush, which was released on October 28, 2014, is available for stream here for those who were left craving more. “Lost” feels a more matured effort than a majority of the album, but it definitely proves an interesting listen.

Keep up with Creepers on their Facebook, and check out All Black Recording Company, who the band releases their music through, for more intriguing up-and-coming acts.

New Jersey based progressive hip-hop trio, Dalek share their new single, “Control,” from their first album in six years, Asphalt for Eden! They also announced their record release show at The Bell House in NYC on April 22, 2016.

Check out the Soundcloud stream for "Control," below!

For the past decade and a half, the group has been known for their old-school-street poetry influenced language and delivery underscored by enticingly alarming, sinister sounds.

They’re eccentricity manifests most in their full-length albums: Gutter Tactics (2009), Abandoned Language (2007), Absence (2005), From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots (2002), and Negro Necro Nekros (1998) - all of which were released through Ipecac Recordings. Dalek supported these albums on tour for a decade, and has performed with many influential artists!

That includes, (but is not limited to) KRS One, Tomahawk, The Melvins, TOOL, Grandmaster Flash, Jesu, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pharcyde, RJD2, DeLa Soul, Prince Paul, Lovage, ZU, Black Heart Procession, Gaslamp Killer, Earth, Flying Lotus, The Bug, Mastodon, and Fantomas.

After taking a break from the tour, the group was revived and reformed by virtuoso and producer, DJ Dalek creating a new line-up. This consisted of DJ rEk, who works the turn-tables, as well as co-producer Mike Manteca who manages samplers and effects. The trio united to share their original, experimental sub-hip-hop genre through their long anticipated album, Asphalt for Eden
