Fit For A King's 'Oblivion' Reaches 1 Million Streams

Since their recently released album, Dark Skies, dropped, Fit For A King has been reaping the rewards. In under 1 week, the album has already surpassed 1 Million streams on Spotify, setting the band up for what could be the best first week in their 10-year history. To celebrate this achievement, featured track, “Oblivion,” now has an impressive music video to illustrate what we’ve all been feeling.

The emotional, heavy hitter of a track is musically and instrumentally unnerving. "Oblivion, on its own, is a very personal songs to me, but with this video, it's brought to a different level. The video shows how powerful forgiveness can be, and even when we don't think others deserve it, God does. This video definitely isn't for the faint of heart. But we believe it can show the power of forgiveness through the pain,” says the band of the music video, which you can check out below!

Dark Skies was produced and mixed by the legendary Drew Fulk (I Prevail, Motionless In White, Memphis May Fire.) Dark Skies is the band's evocative declaration of a hard won victory. "This album is far from happy. It's about personal struggles," explains singer Ryan Kirby.

Fit For A King will be hitting the road again next week when they join genre legends The Devil Wears Prada on their 10 Year Anniversary Tour of With Roots Above And Branches Below. Tour dates below!

Forthteller Signs With Imminence Records, Joins Stages Tour

Ever since the surge of death metal throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Florida has been a hotbed for heavy music.

Considering that The Hook has recently covered news pertaining to the alternative hardcore heroes Frameworks and Imminence Records metalcore newcomers Stages, who both originated in Gainesville, it seems clear that this has not changed. It looks like Imminence Records has taken particular interest in Florida’s potential, as they have just signed Tampa tech-metalcore maestros Forthteller to be amongst their ranks.

The band, formerly known as I Shot The Albatross, features vocalist David Winters, vocalist/guitarists Ryan Kole and Justin Hatton, keyboardist Josh Beoddy, bassist Garrett Sharp, and drummer Thom Schultz. Together, these Floridians compose complex pieces, complete with odd time signatures, chaotically sweeping riffage, and heartwarming, synth-laden melodies, along with a lot more. Their sense for both the heavy and the heartfelt is evident throughout their Madman EP, which has gained them a lot of attention since its release in May.

Furthermore, the band has been added to Stages’ New War Tour, which will bring Forthteller on with their newfound label mates, as well as Tallahassee metalcore act A Dying Breed, on three of the four dates of the tour. You can view dates below.

Drummer Thom Shultz remarked on the recent events:

We are very excited to be joining the Imminence Records team. This opportunity is something we have been working toward for a long time, and it is amazing to see all the hard work, the immense support we have received, and the opportunities every industry professional has given us finally come to fruition. We want to offer a special thanks to the dudes in Stages for letting us hit the road with them in July and August! Thank you to everyone for believing in us and making this possible. We will never forget that support!”

With Forthteller’s newfound signing, this band is bound to be demanding the attention of the metal scene at large soon enough. Be sure to follow them on social media to keep up with the latest in Forthteller news, and pick up their existing material for cheap on their Bandcamp. Lastly, be sure to catch these guys live if you find yourself able to do so, as they put on a particularly prime set. As always, stay tuned for more technical terror!

Louder Than Quiet Releases New Video

Maryland based Louder Than Quiet released a new video for their single “Gypsies R Us."  Check it out here!

The African-American five-piece group was inspired by the many issues they have dealt with due to their skin color. The single examines racial injustice, an extremely prevalent topic in the United States today. Vocalist, Ali Rezghi, found lyrical inspiration from the trauma her mother faced after losing their family house, causing them to be referred to as gypsies.

This powerful music video examines both the troubles minorities experience day after day through lyricism and picture. The instrumentals give a heavy soundtrack to this sad story and serve as a refreshing reminder that genre and race do not go hand in hand. Heavy music doesn't examine this subject often.

Since 2010 these guys have been tearing it up in their local scene opening up for acts such as Thy Art Is Murder, iwrestledabearonce, and Dance Gavin Dance. With this great video, directed by Scott Hansen, these guys hope for more exposure into a bigger scene. They hope to branch out of their Washington D.C area punk and move onto a more metal direction.

Their first EP, with help from Chelsea Grin and Wretched, is expected to earn them a larger fanbase, showing off a heavier sound. The band looked to Jamie King, recording engineer, to make that possible. The EP is set to debut on the anniversary of the Michael Brown shooting.

Please check these guys out. The video alone is worth your attention. Links to the video, the track, and social media are below! Stay brutal!

Vilamoura Share "We All Die" Music Video

You know what they say: everything is bigger in Texas, and metal music is no exception.

Lately, the Lone Star state has been a hotbed for some of the heaviest-hitting new music invading the metalcore and deathcore scenes, and Pflugerville outfit Vilamoura is a perfect example of this trend.

Featuring Joshua Huber on rough vocals, Jonathan Sotomayor singing cleans, Tony Lerma and Mikah Shipman on guitar, Joshua Valdez on bass, and Jonathon Lester on drums, Vilamoura plays a crunchy combination of hard-hitting metalcore and modern pop sensibilities in the spirit of A Day To Remember, Secrets, and The Amity Affliction. The band recently released a music video for their song “We All Die”, off their EP Buried Alive which came out in September last year.

Check it out below:

In true Texas fashion, “We All Die” kicks things off with a furious build-up that is then released in a barrage of thick, chugging riffs and pulverizing drums, topped off by Joshua Huber’s skillfully terrorizing vocal delivery. Not a band to cop to one-trick-ponyness, Vilamoura delivers equally impressive choruses, where the song rises into an uplifting polyphony of euphoric solo guitar over headbang-worthy rhythm, and Jonathan Sotomayor’s layered cleans ring out urgently to remind listeners that you’ll lose your mind if you don’t learn from your mistakes and face reality.

Vilamoura has been a band for little more than a year now, having formed in April 2015. With nothing but a surprisingly well-produced debut EP (mixed and mastered by Robby Joyner) under their belt music-wise, the band has played many shows in the Texas area and now has two high-quality music videos. Their first one, which came out for their song “Vindictive” in March of this year, can be viewed right here. The video was put out by Collapse Entertainment.

You can follow this band now on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to keep up with the latest news. Stay tuned!

REPS Unleash New Single

It has only been a month since Rochester, New York’s very own REPS announced their debut studio album, Poisoned Youth, set to release on April 29. To give fans a taste of just what they’re in for in a few weeks, the band has made their newest single, “Dead In The Water”, available for streaming on bandcamp via the music blog Heavy Blog Is Heavy today.

The track is a wonderful example of just what REPS has to offer, displaying their insanely experimental hardcore which effortlessly integrates heavy metal riffs and a potently steady hardcore assault. It opens up with a shot of adrenaline-pumping rock, dives into a steady assault of hardcore, and culminates in an urgently melodic cry to “believe that [they] can be more than this” - all within the first minute of the song! It only continues to dance effortlessly between genres, maintaining an unstoppable pace that just begs to hurtle headfirst into its cement-block heavy conclusion.

Says the band, which consists of Colton Bockes on vocals, Jordan Foehner on guitar, Mike Till on bass, and Steve Koch on drums, of “Dead In The Water”: "This song is where the record's title comes from. It seems like every generation in some way repeats all of the previous generation's mistakes, and inherits most of, if not all of their vices. War, Racism, Sexism, Homophobia the list could go on. It seems crazy that after all mankind has gone through and learned, that these all exist. In many ways, the world we live in now is far more terrifying than it ever was for our parents when they were our age. All of us are close to the age where we could be starting families of our own, but the thought of doing that in these times often induces immediate fear and anxiety. No matter how much we learn from the mistakes of our elders, and how many opportunities we have to be better; we still fall prey to the same vices. We are the product of our ancestors and failed ambitions to be better. We are the poisoned youth."

The single continues to build on a unique sound that was first heard on their January 2015 EP, Own Your Mind, which can be streamed and downloaded from their Bandcamp.
