After tireless hard work & dedication, we are excited to announce the celebration of a debut release from Philadelphia’s own, Hannah Lorimer.

The Illinois native has been creating, performing and supporting local music & artists since 2013 here in Philadelphia - and has now, finally, put out her debut single, “Alive.” The track is sweet, sultry, and romantic in all ways that we’ve all always known & loved with Lorimer’s music. The singer & songwriter has really crafted something special & unique, which can be a feat in itself: a track that shows off Lorimer’s distinct sound.

Check it out below!

“Alive” is upbeat, but remains grounded in gentle lyricism, and the powerhouse that is Lorimer’s voice. There isn’t a single moment in the song where you’re questioning where Lorimer is bringing you. It feels confident, fluid & matured, as if Hannah herself knows that the content she is putting out is content that needs to be heard - and so, we hear it.

The 5-minute long track is what we hope is the first of many, whether that be more singles, or even a full album. Either way, Hannah Lorimer is always gigging here in Philadelphia, and we’ve included her social media down below so you never miss a beat!

The Catharsis of Bleeder & The Single Series

The comeback stories of all comebacks, Bleeder is fluent in catharsis - and they’re using their new single series to highlight it.

After being born with hemophilia & then medically infected by HIV & Hepatitis C at age 10 - Shelby Smoak has a lot to talk about. After almost dying at 24 when the HIV had become AIDs, Shelby survived & wrote a book, but he wasn’t done there. Creating Bleeder meant creating another way to feel, and Bleeder has a lot to give.

Their most recent single, “Rose In The Rain” is the first of many from their new Single Series. Check out the music video down below to get a taste of this smooth folk rock vibe!

“Rose In The Rain” is an emotional slow down, allowing you into Bleeder’s frame of mind. An easy listen, the song is reminiscent of rock & folk. You can check out the track on Bleeder’s bandcamp, but otherwise you’ll definitely want to stay tuned as the Single Series begin to ramp up over the next few weeks!

Exclusive Premiere: Serencia Shares 'I Touch Heaven'

I Touch heaven.jpg

What kind of Valentine would we be if we weren't giving you a gift? Well, don't you worry, we didn't forget - and neither did Pennsylvania favorites, Serencia; because what better gift is there than the gift of music?

The 4 piece indie/folk band from Lancaster, PA is comprised of Derek (Vocals-Guitar), Lily (Cello), Hannah (Vocals), and Bryce (Guitar). Together, with AGL Sounds, Serencia made their most recent album Morning Blues, which released in November of 2017. Both Morning Blues & their first album, A Leap of Faith, A Violent Shove, are available for stream & download.

However, we're not here to talk about that - as much fun as it is. We're here to exclusively bring you a Valentines Day dreamboat of a song. "I Touch Heaven" is Serencia's latest release, a tribute to Grandfather, Dick Hanna, and his original song "I Touch Heaven (With My Hand)" recorded in the 1980's.

Check it out exclusively streaming below via Serencia's bandcamp & The Hook Journal and get the tissues ready!

The sweet, somber track is right in line with Serencia's current sound - a perfect addition to the discography and collection they're currently building.

"This song is especially important to me, it is a song that my Great Grandpa wrote back in the 1980's and had pressed onto vinyl. I've always loved the song and wanted to honor his work by bringing it to a new generation. Lily (Eckman) and I originally recorded it on our first album A Leap of Faith, A Violent Shove, but since we added Bryce (Sadler) and Hannah (Hensely) and had such a great experience working with AGL Sounds on our new album Morning Blues, it felt like this was a great time to revisit this song as a full band interpretation," says Derek Paris Frantz of the revival track.

So, spend this Valentines Day with someone or something you love, put on "I Touch Heaven" and drink lots of water. Check out Serencia on their social media, and definitely check out their most recent album release Morning Blues if you dig this. Otherwise, as always, thanks for reading and make sure to catch up on their social media links to never miss a moment!

Alex Di Leo Releases EP

A few months back, singer-songwriter Alex Di Leo teased the release of his debut EPSo We Go, with his single "Make it Easier". Fast-forward to early November, the Florida-based musician streamed the eagerly-awaited EP exclusively on Substream Magazine before its official release on November 4th.

Hyping up this first endeavor as a solo artist, Alex put out a video for "Waking Up", the final track off the work, which you can stream below:

Alex takes listeners through an indie, pop, and sometimes folk journey throughout the 6-song release. His sound brings to mind bands like Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, etc. He offers that crisp, light pop sound - the kind of artist you'd expect to hear at an outdoor music festival or in your top-down convertible driving along the ocean on a cloudless day.

So We Go tracklist:
1) So We Go
2) Make It Easier
3) I've Been Waiting

4) When We First Met
5) Reason
6) Waking Up

Unfortunately, you can't get the work for free, but So We Go is available for streaming on Spotify, iTunes, etc. Alex Di Leo is definitely an artist worth checking out for fans of easy listening indie pop. I'm intrigued to see where he goes from here in that this is but his first release as a solo artist - it will be cool to see how he approaches a full length release.

Otherwise, if you haven't already, check out my interview with the lad and keep up with Alex on his social media!

Dirty Dollhouse Premieres "Moonshine" Video

Philly's very own, Dirty Dollhouse is back, having dropped a music video for their single, "Moonshine", which recently debuted on WXPN's The Key!

The "Moonshine" video is a cut from the folk trio's new album, Vinyl Child, whose release is still TBD. The brains behind the group, Chelsea Mitchell, had this to say regarding the new album:

"The themes are darker, the guitars are louder (thanks in part to August John Lutz II), and the vocals are bigger. I love how Bob Sweeney put this video together with so many layers…it seems like a perfect representation of where we’re going. Brian Strouse (of The Lawsuits) and I have been working for almost a year on Vinyl Child, tweaking and reinventing the Dirty Dollhouse sound. There is still a folk/country heartbeat throughout the album, but it’s definitely multi-genre. I think it’s good to maintain a certain ambiguity; at the end of the day, I’m not a country singer, or an indie rock artist, or a throwback – I’m a songwriter. There’s so much freedom in that."

Otherwise, while you wait for Vinyl Child to drop, you can keep up with Dirty Dollhouse on their social media below!

Ira Lawrence Shares Brand New Track

Lo-Fi Bedroom Folk artist Ira Lawrence and His Haunted Electric Mandolin has just released a new single. The song is called “All My Fake Friends” and it's off his new album,
MAPAGKAWANGGAWA, due out October 7th.

The album is sure to be a stellar example of this sort of modern pop-infused jangle folk. “All My Fake Friends” is a catchy tune, and you can check it out over on SoundCloud.

Ira Lawrence, playwright, inherited a haunted electric mandolin from his estranged mother in 2014. Since then, he's been making music with it. MAPAGKAWANGGAWA features only Lawrence's hazy vocals and sounds from his haunted electric mandolin. It's a bare-bones approach to folk and it feels as minimalist as you can get.

This is Lawrence's fist full-length release, after his EP, Elegant Freefall, which is available on his Bandcamp. Ira Lawrence is bringing his haunted electric mandolin on tour in September and October. Here are the upcoming dates!

Quinnell Premiers New Music Video

Pacific Northwest folk singer/songwriter Quinell [for fans of Noah Gundersen, William Fitzsimmons, Passenger] has been garnering attention in his hometown - and is excited to share his exclusive premier with fans and listeners!

The folk singer/songwriter partnered with The Alternative Root for the exclusive premiere of his video for "Space to Breathe." The song is a spine-tingling, acoustic track dripping in emotional catharsis depicting the breaking of a relationship. It is also the first video from Quinell's Village Hall Sessions, and was directed by videographer Justin Frick and features violinist Erica Aamod.

The video has a raw, and live atmosphere that captures the melancholy embodiment of the song. You can check out the video above, and vibe to the quiet sounds!

Quinnell had this to say about the video and song, "The song, 'Space to Breathe', is written about the end of a relationship. That time in the relationship when one of the two involved decides they need some space and while you'd like to believe that there's still a chance, you know it's really over. As a student at Walla Walla University, my favorite building on campus was always "Village Hall". Now, as an alumni and a musician, I was very excited to be granted the opportunity to record a couple of my own songs in this beautiful building. What started out as a random idea to shoot a song in Village Hall has turned into the "Village Hall Sessions", something that I hope to continue coming back to for years to come."
