Happy Holidays! We here at The Hook have teamed up with the St. Louis, Missouri metalcore band Ecclesiast to bring you an exclusive music video for their BRAND-NEW single "Naysayer"! Mixing their hardcore sensibilities with mystical melody and solid riffage, this new single provides a bite-sized sample of what's to come! Check it out below:

The Hook has had the privilege of writing about/interviewing this astounding Christian metalcore act in the past, notably following the release of their eponymous debut EP. The release ripped and we were extremely excited to get into direct contact and hear what these boys had to say about their work. Therefore, it is now with honor that we present this single!

"Naysayer" itself is one more giant step in this band's career, the first of new material which will eventually precipitate in the release of a full-length album. The band is currently planning on taking some time off to work on this as-yet-unannounced release, which you will definitely hear more about by mid-2017.

With so much in the works, now is the opportune time to start following Ecclesiast on their various social media platforms to keep up with them! Greaver Releases Album

Today, the Durham, North Carolina post-hardcore quintet Greaver released their debut full-length album!

The Faun was released through Cardigan Records. However, kind guys as they are, they streamed it ahead of time for your listening pleasure! It is a riveting listen front to back!

The Faun Track-List:
1. Last Breath
2. A Poisoned Well
3. Southfield
4. November Skin
5. Third Eye
6. Earth Rune
7. Moonlight, Snow
8. Grief Seeds
9. First Touch
10. Hang Up

For their debut album, Greaver- which features Michael Rozier and Micheal Townsel on guitars/vocals, Sean McNaught on guitar, Eli Wray on bass/vocals, and Travis Hall on drums/vocals- took quite the ambitious route. Throughout its ten tracks, The Faun spins a tale of a truly tragic nature.

Michael Rozier states: “The concept on ‘The Faun’ is a murder story that touches on racial turmoil. Leon is one of the album’s main characters and is the spirit that narrates the tracks ‘A Poisoned Well’ and ‘Earth Rune’. Leon’s memories act as ‘The Faun’ (much like the faun in Pan’s Labirynth), guiding every decision that Morgan (the female main character) makes.”

Stylistically, the band incorporates the intense urgency, emotional weight, and narrative elements of new-age screamo in the vain of Touche Amore, Defeater, and Pianos Become The Teeth as well as the heaviness of first-wave acts such as Pg. 99 and Orchid. Every mysterious, ink-stained layer of their music feels as though it was crafted intentionally, contributing to the overall well-structured and consistently engaging nature of their music.

The band also announced a line of tour dates spanning the East Coast, starting at the end of May. The band will be out with post-pop outfit and fellow NC natives Youth League.

Be sure to follow Greaver on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-date info and other goings-on.

Local New Jersey grown band, Semiotics, just released a brand new music video this week for their track, "Cheers Me Proper."

"Cheers Me Proper" comes straight off of their most recent EP, For How, which released in October 2015. The music video is a beautiful non-romantic (and awkward, and goofy) ode to playing basement shows - the guy on the phone, beer as donations, and a whole lot of tomatoes - and you should definitely check it out below!

While you're at it, just check out For How because that's also some super stellar alt-rock/emo music you can vibe to. Semiotics is also gearing up to go and play some shows with Brackish - check out those dates below (on the coolest poster I've ever seen).

For more info on Semiotics you can check back here where we'll be checking out their newest EP, and learning more about Semiotics - or you can just go straight to the source and check out their social media!

Quinnell Premiers New Music Video

Pacific Northwest folk singer/songwriter Quinell [for fans of Noah Gundersen, William Fitzsimmons, Passenger] has been garnering attention in his hometown - and is excited to share his exclusive premier with fans and listeners!

The folk singer/songwriter partnered with The Alternative Root for the exclusive premiere of his video for "Space to Breathe." The song is a spine-tingling, acoustic track dripping in emotional catharsis depicting the breaking of a relationship. It is also the first video from Quinell's Village Hall Sessions, and was directed by videographer Justin Frick and features violinist Erica Aamod.

The video has a raw, and live atmosphere that captures the melancholy embodiment of the song. You can check out the video above, and vibe to the quiet sounds!

Quinnell had this to say about the video and song, "The song, 'Space to Breathe', is written about the end of a relationship. That time in the relationship when one of the two involved decides they need some space and while you'd like to believe that there's still a chance, you know it's really over. As a student at Walla Walla University, my favorite building on campus was always "Village Hall". Now, as an alumni and a musician, I was very excited to be granted the opportunity to record a couple of my own songs in this beautiful building. What started out as a random idea to shoot a song in Village Hall has turned into the "Village Hall Sessions", something that I hope to continue coming back to for years to come."
