Catch Up With Us: Puppy Angst Shares New Music in November

Philadelphia’s own Puppy Angst is swiftly moving onto the scene with their fuzzy, noisy sound sure to make you feel welcomed & in your feels.

The celebrated the end of 2018 by releasing their first full band track, “meet at the show.” Represented by Good How Are You Records, Puppy Angst had help from Dylan Kittrell at The Blank Space recording & mixing “meet at the show,” while the track was mastered by bassist Kyle O'Connor.

Check it out streaming below!

Having been released on November 16th, the track holds it’s own as an impressive & well constructed track that pulls at the heartstrings while also remaining easy to listen to. I’d be interested to see where Puppy Angst moves forward in the new year, and I wonder how they vibe on stage, as well as how they continue to grow and become an valuable piece of Philadelphian DIY culture.

ASL Music Video Is Latest From With Confidence

Bands continue to take in the important of inclusivity as they move forward, and With Confidence has always been one step ahead.

"Moving Boxes," the third single from their recent album Love and Loathing, the band's second full length, out on Hopeless Records, was their pet project for this American Sign Language Friendly music video. The band worked with an ASL interpreter to create a really special video for fans to experience the song in a different, more inclusive way.

Check it out below!

A few months ago, With Confidence shared the original music video for "Moving Boxes,"and in June released "That Something".

"Moving Boxes" was written by guitarist Inigo Del Carmen, who said, "I think it's important for media/art to be accessible to everyone. Our goal is to create music for everyone to enjoy and lyrics that everyone has the opportunity to relate to. By doing a video in ASL, we can further immerse our fans who are hearing impaired and create an even bigger platform for some of the topics, such as mental health, that our music touches on. My best friend is hearing impaired and this is something we've talked about doing for awhile and now we've actually done it! Big thanks to Raquel for being an amazing teacher and helping us learn some ASL!”

I The Victor's "Tongue & Stutter" Fall Jam You're Looking For

I The Victor are the Atlanta Based New Comers sure to rock your socks this Fall.

With a running start into the game this year including a tour with The Orphan The Poet, support shows with Vinyl Theatre and Vesperteen, a DIY west coast tour, and a handful of slots on Vans Warped Tour this past July. The solo project was created by Atlanta’s Rebecca Ramos, who co-produced “Tongue & Stutter” in addition to directing, writing & editing the music video.

Check out the music video below!

The track is the lead of three singles and videos to precede a new EP in early 2019.

About the single, Ramos states: “Tongue & Stutter is about individuality, really. We’ve been playing it live for a little bit and I always sum it up as a song about growth and making the intentional decision to be who you are and not be afraid of some of the risks that may come with that. I’ve grown so much since past ITV songs, I just wanted to write about not being as afraid to dive into the unknown, especially if the driving force is being more free and better off for it. There are dozens of little moments in the lyrics that mean the world to me or that exemplify little breakthroughs — not trusting a phone is in reference to my newfound disregard for social media and the numbers game, getting out of ‘the woods’ and into my own life instead of following people’s opinions and living for others, etc. I feel like Tongue & Stutter really led me through some growth I didn’t realize I needed; each section is it’s own little betterment of my headspace and that’s why I’m so excited to have it lead off this whole new era for I The Victor.”

FYKE Shares New Music Video

FYKE have been making huge gains as one of Universal Music Groups International Acts - and recently are celebrating the release of their music video for the single, “Till The End.” The track, much like others from FYKE, radiate a message highlighting social issues & positivity.

Comprised of Enik Lin, Steven Delman, Justin Wright, Mikee Fabella, and Gerard Christian, the band released their debut single "Favorite Mistake" in early 2017. Front man, Enik Lin, has produced/recorded and mixed all of the bands music with the support of Gene Gimaldi at Oasis Mastering.

Check out the music video for “Till The End” below!

Enik elaborates on the song, "'Till The End" is a song about dealing with anxiety and panic attacks. Anxiety disorders are estimated to affect 30 percent of adults (age 18-54) in America alone. almost half of that percentage is unreported due to misdiagnosis, people that choose not to seek help, and people that don't even know that they are currently suffering from an anxiety disorder. We wanted to write a song that brought attention to the symptoms of living with anxiety and the constant feeling of wanting to find a way to escape its grasp.”

Catch Up On Rich People's Latest Music Video

unnamed (4).jpg

Did you miss Rich People's latest release & music video? Well, let's bring you up to speed then. Earlier this month, Philly/Jersey band Rich People shared a brand new music video for their track 'Back Step,' another emotional song from the band - one you're sure to fall in love with.

Check out the video below!

Lead singer Rob had this to say, 'The lyrics are from the perspective of a very self-involved musician who is often so wrapped up in their own writing and playing that they forget to maintain relationships. The attitude of being better-than and isolating from others starts with the first words. “I always start to finish just before you start to come up” refers to the narrator’s struggle with seeing others as lazy and incompetent at times and by the conclusion of the second verse his cool indifference has amassed and been distilled into the statement “Love is cool, Love is fine, Love is wondering if I have the time”. The truth is that the writer is just lazy and incompetent in matters of interpersonal relationships and humility.

It’s hard for like minds like mine to set aside some together time when our passions call for so much solitude. The farther we pull apart, the more the threads seem to pull and leave us exposed and threadbare. There’s a balance between our commitment to the things that make us interesting and attractive to others, and our need to spend ourselves on each other. I haven’t found that balance but I will continue to write about my efforts and make pretty visuals with my friends to further express what I am feeling.'

This one really hit home for us, honestly. The unraveling of the track matches the unraveling of the video, of the way we feel even. We've been a fan of Rich People for a little while now, and while their tracks our always succeeding in connecting with listeners on a deeper level, 'Back Step' is a really poignant track to end the year with, so definitely check it out above.

As always we've got their social media down below if you wanna check out more!

The Used Announce Upcoming Album

The Used have announced they will be releasing their seventh studio album titled, The Canyon due out October 27th on Hopeless Records. Produced by Ross Robinson (The Cure, At The Drive In), the 17-track album is the most raw, unadulterated and personal piece of art the band has ever released.

The Canyon will take fans on a lyrical journey through the intimate psyche of Bert McCracken.

"I've learned as an artist that a great idea is such a gift. If I don't stop whatever it is I'm doing, even if while driving, if I don't pull over at that moment, then maybe I didn't deserve the idea to begin with. I learned to respect and worship the ideas in that way, that they are and will always be something sacred. Stopping in that moment was a brand new approach for us during this process" says McCracken.

ANSON Share New Music Video 'To Be Or Nothing At All' & Announces EP

unnamed (6).jpg

Los Angeles-based Alternative Rock band, ANSON is a 3-piece act set to bridge early 2000's emo rock with today's mainstream stratosphere. The group, consisting of Anson Li (Vocals), George Tello (Bassist), and Zack Mueller (Lead Guitarist) offer an array of introspective songs about life and discovering who you are as a person.

Recently they announced their debut EP entitled To Be or Nothing At All, and celebrated with the release of a brand new music video for the title track! Check it out below!

The EP offers a very personal and raw reflection of when vocalist, Anson Li, began the journey to self identity and speaks to the struggles of putting everything on the line to live for your art. In 2017, Li collaborated with George Tello and Zack Mueller to complete this newfound artistry when wanting to transition from being a solo act to a full band and re-titled the project to ANSON. The three found commonality in self discovery, strength, and empowerment to take a risk in life, and brought a unique synergy to the full band sound.

Li continues,  "To Be or Nothing at All" is about living at the crossroads of my life and dealing with the daily struggles with self identity, self doubt, and depression that come with that. The EP tells a story of how I dealt with these issues and gained strength to choose a path and move forward in my life. This EP is a testament to the fact you can't live your whole life stuck at the crossroads. You have to make a choice because not making a choice is just as bad as making the wrong one. In life you have to stand up for what you believe in, don't be scared to fail and go for it. Follow your dreams. Taking leaps of faith is terrifying, but at the end of the day when you do it, everything in your life aligns together and it's pure bliss."

Debut EP To Be or Nothing At All due out September 29, 2017. Fans can pre-order To Be or Nothing At All now.

Vault 51 Drops Second Single "Magnolia" & Announce Debut EP

Vault 51, an alt-rock five-piece from Atlanta, Georgia, are making their debut with the announcement of their first EP, Kid, and the release of their second single “Magnolia.” This new track comes off the heels of the band’s first single, “Thirty Six.” Both songs are from Vault 51’s EP, which is slated for release on July 20th. If you’re looking for new music to listen to, keep Vault 51 in mind – “Magnolia” offers a glimpse of their personal style, and also gives fans a sneak peek of what’s to come with the full release of Kid

Check out "Magnolia" below!

About “Magnolia,” the band had this to say: “We chose to release ‘Magnolia’ as a single because we felt it was an appropriate song to reflect the overall theme that our EP gives off. That is, the idea that as we grow older, life seems to pass us by more and more quickly. Life is constantly ticking by, whether you want it to or not. And we spend so much of that time completely wasted. Everyone wants to create something beautiful before they die. To leave their mark on the world. We all start from nothing and strive to grow into something beautiful, much like a magnolia flower.”
With those impassioned words and that inspiring message (a message that I vibe pretty heavily with, TBH), “Magnolia” makes for a successful release. And Kid is sure to be a fantastic debut EP for Vault 51.
Listen to “Magnolia,” and keep up with Vault 51 on social media for more updates.

Letters To Part Announce Debut Album

The post-rock group Letters To Part’s full-length album, A Human Curse, was born out of vulnerability and tragedy. After the loss of their singer/guitarist and lead singer Y’shua Ortiz-Escobedo’s cousin, Ortiz-Escobedo began to write songs inspired by his grief. This eventually lead to the band’s first EP in 2012. Now they’re back with their full-length debut album.

A Human Curse is about the personal struggles people often face in life and the private battles we all fight with ourselves. The overall theme of the album is about how we cope with living in a world that offers so many sources of anxiety. Y’shua Ortiz-Escobedo says, “It’s a story about understanding true heartache, and trying to cope. Through vices that we all use. Trying to relieve some sort of symptom.”
That powerful message is hinted at in the album’s first single, “Six Months,” which is a song that tells a story of abuse. Letters To Part recently signed with Wilhelm Records to release A Human Curse, and in celebration of their first single and the upcoming album release, they are heading on tour in July. A Human Curse drops on July 7th, 2017, and you can catch Letters To Part on the road after that to see it performed live. They’ll be stopping in Pittsburgh and Philly, so mark your calendars!

The Bandicoots Share "Dead End Street"

In anticipation of their July 23rd release, Zolly, The Bandicoots have shared with listeners a brand new EP, "Dead End Street." Impose Magazine premiered the track, and the band says they may have had a music video for it, but decided to hold off!

Check out "Dead End Street" streaming below!

According to the band, this was their process on the new single, "When I’m writing songs, I usually find myself hiding behind the words as often as possible. I’ll pile on as many metaphors I can so that when I eventually get up to sing them in front of people, the ones I’m singing about might not realize its about them. With this tune though, I basically said fuck it and tried to be as clear as I could. Doing that kind of helped me smooth out the edges of the thing I was dealing with, since I was forcing myself to stare straight at it."

New Album and North American Tour Announcements from Hexheart

Seattle post-punk artist Hexheart has announced the release of their debut album, Midnight On A Moonless Night. The first single off the album, “A Thousand Times,” premiered on The Huffington Post, which you can listen to down below. Hexheart’s North American tour will kick off on May 31st and end on June 22nd, from California to Oregon.

Hexheart was formed by Jasyn Bangert, formerly of EBM band God Module. Bangert needed an alternate outlet for his musical ideas that didn’t quite fit in with God Module, and Hexheart was the result. Alongside Andrew Pearson on synths and backing vocals and guitarist Patrick Hogan, Jasyn Bangert rounds out Hexheart with a strong core.

The band is inspired by influences both old and new like The Cure, Joy Division, Cold Cave, and She Wants Revenge, but they’ve got a sound that’s original and unique, combining darkwave and synth-pop electronics and melodic vocals. The tour dates can be seen above, and the album is available for preorder now!

Exclusive Video Premiere: Jack Romanov's "Par for the Course"

Photography: David Kinchen

The Hook is happy to announce our recent collaboration with Boston's own Jack Romanov to help premiere their latest music video for their track "Par for the Course."

Thanks to Open Casket Productions, everything in the series was shot by the crew, with the help of Jack Romanov. Additional work was done thanks to their friend Harry, who produced the video! Check out this exclusive premiere of "Par For The Course" down below, right here on The Hook!

The 17-minute long video details (in spectacular quality, might we add) highlights a daily look into a life maybe similar or far away from your own. And of course, Jack Romanov's impressive musicianship and quality laid over the video make for a more cinematic, emotional take.

We really enjoyed the video over here at The Hook, and we're hoping you'll take the time to watch this little story unfold. Definitely don't want to miss this!

New Single “Once Upon A Time” from The Running Lights

New York-based trio The Running Lights formed in 2015, after singer and guitarist Mike Squillante appeared on the popular NBC talent show The Voice. Squillante toured as an opener for quirky pop artist Melanie Martinez, and formed The Running Lights with his brother Nick following his success on tour. The Squillante brothers recruited their drummer and close friend Steve Ranellone to round out the band. Since their formation, The Running Lights have released four live covers that earned over 50,000 views on YouTube, and now they are back with their official debut single, “Once Upon A Time.”

The song comes with a lyric video, and it’s got everything a successful pop song should have: a good beat, catchy hooks, and a message. “Once Upon A Time” is a reverse fairy tale told from the perspective of a hopeless romantic (which instantly makes me intrigued, since I’m a sucker for fairy tales and I am the most hopeless romantic of them all).

Check it out below!

The band offered this statement about their debut single: “We wanted ‘Once Upon A Time’ to speak to anyone who’s ever been insecure or embarrassed about the way they feel. Unsaid things can quickly turn into negative thoughts which can be a drag for you and for those close to you. We want to encourage those people to be open about their feelings! And not solely feelings of love and loss, but about anything and everything.”

As someone who is always trying to find balance between being disgustingly honest about their feelings and also being too closed off, this song speaks to me. Listen to it now, and check out some of The Running Lights’s covers. The release of their first EP will follow the single, so keep your eye out for it!

Back Garden Light Cover The Jackson 5

This is a new one: a pop punk band called Back Garden Light from Bordeaux, France has released a new cover of The Jackson 5’s famous “I Want You Back.”

Originally released in 1969 and written by The Corporation, Back Garden Light’s version of the song is still just as energetic and feel-good as the original. Back Garden Light’s music video for the cover was filmed at Claouey Skatepark, the oldest skatepark in France, which is fitting for the song, as the park was built during the 1970’s. The track itself was produced by Back Garden Light’s guitarist Matthieu Kirby.

Check it out below!

Vocalist Max Desgarnier said the band chose to cover “I Want You Back” because they wanted a song that was iconic, but not overplayed. This is their first cover in a while, and they thought The Jackson 5 track was fitting “because of its classic status, it’s instantly recognizable, and it has personally inspiring vocals.”

Back Garden Light formed in 2014, and since then, they have been busy writing their own songs and filming their own music videos. Their latest EP, Life’s A Game, is available on iTunes and Spotify, and it was mixed and mastered by Bert and Eric, members of the notable pop punk outfit Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Back Garden Light is on tour in Europe this year, and you can connect with them on social media below!
