After tireless hard work & dedication, we are excited to announce the celebration of a debut release from Philadelphia’s own, Hannah Lorimer.

The Illinois native has been creating, performing and supporting local music & artists since 2013 here in Philadelphia - and has now, finally, put out her debut single, “Alive.” The track is sweet, sultry, and romantic in all ways that we’ve all always known & loved with Lorimer’s music. The singer & songwriter has really crafted something special & unique, which can be a feat in itself: a track that shows off Lorimer’s distinct sound.

Check it out below!

“Alive” is upbeat, but remains grounded in gentle lyricism, and the powerhouse that is Lorimer’s voice. There isn’t a single moment in the song where you’re questioning where Lorimer is bringing you. It feels confident, fluid & matured, as if Hannah herself knows that the content she is putting out is content that needs to be heard - and so, we hear it.

The 5-minute long track is what we hope is the first of many, whether that be more singles, or even a full album. Either way, Hannah Lorimer is always gigging here in Philadelphia, and we’ve included her social media down below so you never miss a beat!

Celebrating their most recent release, Millennial Hippie, CHVNCE released a music video earlier this month for 'Sunshine Fever,' and you'd be straight silly to miss this one.

With a blast from the past psychedelic feel & reminiscent of bands like Foals or Queens of the Stone Age, CHVNCE are bringing an enlightening sound for listeners - and we're not the only ones who are noticing. Recently picked up by Blossom Records in LA, CHVNCE is well on their way. Coming out of a solo indie project from Hayden Chance, and now into this is quite the thrilling adventure, and we're only even more excited to see what else they have in store for us in the coming year!

Queue Releases Brand New Single 'Frontier'

Dreamy Philadelphia locals Queue have shared their most recently single, "Frontier" with listeners recently! The brand new track is a smooth, indie rock vibe that marks the first release since their June 2016 2-track EP release!

"Frontier" moves Queue into an exciting direction, one that seems popular in indie music right now. I'd compare Queue to bands like Foals, or The xx. You should check it out below, streaming thanks to Soundcloud!

The track was produced, engineered & mixed by Ben Rice, recorded at Degraw Sound, Brooklyn, New York, and mastered by Justin Colletti, Joe Lambert Mastering.

We're really into this new track, and the band had this to say about the track, "The sound of this single is grounded by the bands that first got us started in music (ie. The Cure and The Smiths), and was our attempt at making the kind of song we wish we could still hear on the radio."

They're definitely on my list for things I want to hear on the radio, so I'll be sure to follow Queue nice and close! Check out their social media below to do the same!

Cool Philly Bands Record Cool Songs

It's always fun seeing your favorite local music, and it's even more fun when your favorite local artists come together to create a kick ass compilation album featuring some of their favorite covers!

George Valdivia is to thank for the culmination of the cover compilation, as he brought together (whether by chance or fate) some of Philadelphia's top notch local DIY artists! Musicians like Curtis Cooper, Stavi, Witch H(c)unt, and Kevin Brusha of Cerulean Blue all came together to share their favorite tracks, and take it from us, it's really stinkin' good.

Check out a quick recap of the tracklist below!

Check out George's experience with creating this project, "My "Fostex 160 multitracker" is what I used for the whole thing. I've recorded 2 solo albums under the name "Georgey V" and by the end of the 2nd album, I started to realize that I wasn't to bad at doing this whole recording thing. I started thinking "Hey why don't I record my friends on this and see what they would sound like" it later became the idea of having them pick out a cover they enjoyed to play/listen to/favorite song. I started with recording Kevin Brusha of "Cerulean Blue" at the now "Overlook Hotel" it was fun! Recording someone else who wasn't me. Later through the night I said hell let's record a couple more people at this house because they're very talented in there own unique way. So I ended up recording Forest Ranger, I recorded his song in one take. I micd his acoustic guitar that's 4 string [I believe] and he just played. Lina Xinos now going by the name (Stavi) just so happened to be there so I recorded them as well. A week or so past and I decided to record Branden Bauer, this session was kinda more relaxed and a very fun time. Time went by and Curtis Cooper messaged me asking to record something on my 4 track. I told Curtis what I was doing, and they said they wanted to be apart of it."

"This was exciting because I really enjoy Curtis's music and when I started going to basement shows Curtis was one of the first people who I saw perform. My girlfriend and I came to his house at the "all night diner" for me to record him. We spent from 12 in the afternoon till 4 recording, this was a very interesting time because I felt like this was the first time I really got to know Curtis as a person. Super nice sweet person and obviously very talented! For example as we were talking about how we would record, Curtis would be noodling on the guitar completely paying attention to what I was saying and having responses. (I definitely can't do that lol) anyway the whole thing was very interesting watching Curtis play each instrument and when it finally came time to record vocals it was incredible hearing Curtis change with his powerful dynamics. Next I started to record my song because hey I wanted to be apart of this thing too hahah I chose the song Adeline by Dr. Dog because I love Dr. Dog and if you ever listen to the album "toothbrush" the whole thing was recorded on a 4 track so I kinda thought to myself I have to do it heh heh. Last I recorded Dori of "Witch H(c)unt" at the "all night diner" as well. This was nice to record because this was the first time I've recorded someone with a banjo. We spent an hour or two to record. This is pretty much it for the recording aspect the only thing I wish I've done was record the band "Fred Beans" but it just didn't happen and by the end of everything my 4 track kinda kicked the bucket. Next I took it to be mixed and mastered by Tim Jordan of "Sun Organ" veeerrrry cool guy. When we finished we drank two 6 packs and just shared music with each other and hung out."

Definitely stream the album above on bandcamp, and check out all of these really cool, local artists who are all giving their own unique flare to each track on this quirky EP. That's a Hook recommendation!

JW Sargent Announces Debut EP Release

Alternative singer-songwriter and Philly native, JW Sargent, recently announced the release of his debut EP, In Retrograde, for Friday, November 18th. This release is exciting for JW as it is his first venture as a solo artist wherein he wrote, recorded and produced the EP all on his own.

To promote the releasehe put out a single called "Run" which you can stream below!

Upon listening to "Run", In Retrograde may prove to be a solid debut effort coupled with the fact that the artist and David Beckham look-a-like featured several prominent musicians and sound engineers such as Justin Nace (PVRIS), Evan Chapman (Lydia), Justin Chapman (Dr. Dog) and Paul Leavitt (All Time Low//Dangerous Summer). JW seemingly draws on alternative and indie influences such as Bon Iver, Copeland or The Japanese House from what we could hear off the 5-song EP.

Otherwise, until the November release, you can keep up with JW Sargent on their social media!

Softspoken Announce Debut EP

In the rare occasions that the words "Kentucky" and "post-hardcore cross paths, it's usually in reference to the genre mainstays Emarosa. However, another band has risen, and that band is Florence, KY natives Softspoken. They've set out to bring their musical know-how to the forefront of modern post-hardcore.

Composed of Logan Combs, Chris Wethington, Billy Zimpelman, Garrett Harper, and Zach Payne, Softspoken has recently announced that they're releasing their debut EP Pathways on October 28th.

Pathways Track List:
1. Wanderer
2. Something I'm Missing
3. Fix Myself
4. I Feel Fire (feat. Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker)
5. Close To Me

With Pathways, the band hopes to create a point of reference for other troubled folk to relate to. For them, it truly comes from the heart.

Says the band of the EP, "We want our music to be thought and emotion provoking and therapeutic. We're doing this music as a form of healing for ourselves and we also think and hope that people out there listening to it can find a similar source of vitality from it as well."

It's clear that the band is ambitious, even coming to Lancaster, PA earlier this year to participate in the LAUNCH Music Festival and Conference. These guys have talent, flare, and above all, a meaningful message to deliver to the masses.

These guys are raring to get out there and perform, so stay tuned for more info by following these bands at their individual outlets and checking their website regularly. These guys have big things in store! Until then, stay tuned!
