Altamina Share New Single

Atlamina, ambient post-rock band based in Montreal have released a brand new single!

“Storm” is the first single from Altamina’s new album Tomorrow Morning Will Be Tonight.

The band’s first release Silver Landing in a Barren Land came in 2012. That album was an instrumental album made by Altamina’s two founders Francois Graham (Keys, Lead Vocals) and Marco Gervais (Guitar, Backing Vocals). The first album was the result of musical experimentation on their part, filling in the gaps with electronic sounds and drums.

Tomorrow Morning Will Be Tonight has a slightly different feel. The biggest change is the addition of Francois’ deep vocals, which may remind listeners of bands such as The National. The foundation of interesting synth parts remains, but more emphasis is placed on the guitar as well as the two newest members of the band; Roxanne Miller (Bass, Backing Vocals) and Matt Davis (Drums). The band cites influences for the record of a great range, from Joy Division to Tool, and all the way to Leonard Cohen.

“Storm” highlights the feel of the album well, with an ethereal tone and subtle movement that ought to leave you wanting more.

Tomorrow Morning Will Be Tonight was released on June 10th, and can also be purchased on Bandcamp! For more on Altamina, check out their links below!

Altamina Releases New Album

Montreal ambient rock outfit, Altamina, have released their new album, Tomorrow Morning Will Be Tonight, via Gray Owl Point. You can head over there to check out their sophomore album!

The somber album broods yet sounds light and dream-like, highlighting the new Altamina sound influenced by electronic acts like Joy Division, Portishead, Tool, PJ Harvey, Alt-J, Interpol, Leonard Cohen, and more. Lead singer François Graham delivers lyrics in a soothing baritone voice, reminiscent of a deep Bowie or Matt Berninger (The National).

Marco Gervais and François Graham provide more experimentation on this album with the inclusion of new band members Matt Davis and Roxanne Miller, giving the previously lo-fi duo a larger, more comprehensive sound.

Tomorrow Morning Will Be Tonight is cinematic, sweeping, and introspective, discussing themes of life, love, loss, healing, redemption, and loneliness.

Altamina was originally started by Gervais and Graham as an experimental outlet while they were playing with post-rock/alternative band Surface of Atlantic. They recorded their debut album, Silver Landing In A Barren Land by themselves in Portugal in 2012.

They recently added Matt Davis and Roxanne Miller into the band in 2014, which broadened their musical experimentation.

On the new single, “Under The Black Sea,” Graham's smooth, low vocals are memorable and the music is layered with spacey synths and clean bass. It's a chilled-out and positive song.

You can listen to the song and pre-order the album here!
